in reply to: New model R1200GS #7145
Phew at that price will have to search the net 😐
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5132This building which I posted a couple of months ago is alas no more.It was bulldosed last Friday to make way for a new commercial building. It was built in 1906 for the Cryer family from where the road gets its name and was evidently not old enough according to the Howick Historical Society to be preserved and moved to the Howick Historical Village.Like the 'Queen' song another one bites the dust. 🙁
in reply to: New model R1200GS #7140I think it is just giving the option of getting all the 'goodies' on from the factory that most of us would like to add anyhow.Must say I like the idea of a different exhaust pipe, how much were you stung for yours Garry ?
in reply to: New model R1200GS #7136Have you seen the brake pots on the new 800 series ? they look as if they were added as an afterfthought 😛
Ever tried to cut fresh bread with a blunt knife and then trying to explain to the wife that it was a doughy mess when she bought it from the shop !! 🙄
in reply to: New BMW?????? #7111Hope it's been LOSP or CCA treated !!!!
in reply to: 07 Cromwell adventure ride photos #7108Great pics Dean, looks like you had a ball 😀
in reply to: What optional xtras are essential? #7078All the options that I have are aftermarket, bought over a period of time.Unfortunately for the purchaser, as these bikes are going out the door pretty quick it hardly gives much negotiating or bargaining power but I am sure you will get a deal that both parties are happy with. 🙂
in reply to: What optional xtras are essential? #7075One item I forgot to mention but which I consider a “must” is a front mudguard extender, available from Nippy Normans or Touratech. The original front mudguard allows stones and tar to be flung up onto the cross exhaust pipe where it carborises and makes a real mess which is very difficult to remove, apart from the stone chips in the exhaust.I also have bar risers fitted with I find makes for a better ride.Unless you are getting a top box etc you may want to consider a tailrack bag and also there is a bag that fits in between the rear rack which is quite handy and so the list goes on !!!!!!!!!If you do buy anything from overseas try and consolidate items into one package which will cut down on freight.I know Nippy Norman will do this for you as well as not charge VAT
in reply to: What optional xtras are essential? #707006 1200GS sidestand with added height.
in reply to: What optional xtras are essential? #7069As NZGSER said ABS, heated grips and hand protectors are a must but I believe that BMW are bringing them in standard anyway. The computer I don't know about as I think they are standard on the 1200 GS also, it's only the new 800 series that you can option for the computer as an extra and that gives you a fuel gauge and distance till empty option. The exhaust is chrome but the pipes are stainless and unless you put a lot of effort into polishing them with autosolv they quickly go a crappy dark brown colour so maybe you can get chrome pipes for them.A ventura headlight guard is a must also but the list can go on and on.Go to the Touratech website or Nippy Normans if you really want to spend some money on accessories 😀One point I will make is to be carefull of the side stand on the new models as it allows the bike to go over to an alarming level especially on cambered roads and because it slopes back a lot it is extremely easy to knock it off the side stand.I added a piece of hardwood with an aluminium plate to the bottom of the stand which helps a lot to add some height, but I still always park it in gear as it is so easy to roll off.The older models with the hooped center stand are not too bad but these ones are hard to put on the center stand compared to the new ones.I will try and add a pick of the side stand with extra height added
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5126Nice pics Phil, as you say a lot of the time you are past the building before you realise it and then it's too late to stop.I think all of us have ones in mind for when we are next back in that particular area. 🙂
in reply to: Tyres for 1150GS #7061I replied to this but it disapeared ?However would agree totally with Tony, Metzler Tourace great allround tyre for the GS. I have tried Enduro 3, Trailwings, but none came near to the Tourance. Some of the guys have tried Anakees with good results but were disapointed in the life of them.If you are doing a lot of offroad stuff then I believe TK's and Karoo give good results but that is only comments from other riders.
in reply to: Scary road riding. #7000Well said nick, as a Pom who has been here 34 years I still think kiwi's are the worse drivers around and need educating like other countries.15 as you say is far too young to be in charge of a twin turbo death machine and we are lucky that our roads apart from the cities are very quiet otherwise the lack of courtesy shown on the roads would result in far more deaths and gridlock of the cities. One of the things that really amuse me is that in NZ everyone sticks to the outside lane when most of the time the left lane is clear and gives a far better run as well as keeping you further away from the oncoming traffic.
