Welcome Norm, must ask you if you did the Amalfi coast road on the bike when you were in Italy. This was the road in the original movie of the Italian Job ?We did it a couple of years ago on a bus trip and I made a vow to myself that some day I would do it on a bike.  😎

Sorry to hear about your problems Rob, thats the concern I have with my GS now that it is out of warantee, if anything goes wrong it's usually expensive.Have you enquired with any of the other BMW dealers to see if they can fix it quicker, 2 months is an awful long time to wait for repairs.Anyway heres hoping its not toooooooooooo expensive.  🙁

On my last warrant they failed the bike even though it had just had a 30,000km service the day before and new tyres that day because he said the dipped headlight wasnt working. They were quite embarrassed when I said you have to start the bike first for the dipped beam to come on.  😀

Hard luck mate, I think you have been very hard done by and if it was me I would be really p*^#@ off.  😡When I think of the vast number of times I dropped my Honda XR on trails and into trees etc over four years and the only damage was a broken clutch and decompression lever, it makes me feel very happy on the quality of a jappa trail bike.

Good onya Bwucie, I'm sure that is a cause very close to all our hearts, theres nothing worse than coming round a corner to find gravel strewn all over the road and no way to avoid it.It's dangerous enough riding a bike without these sorts of things.Best wishes for your forthcoming surgery.RegardsJim

From the photo it does appear that the shaft is very brittle at that point as if the hardening process hasnt been done correctly and I would tend to agree with you that a small knock like you describe shouldnt have done that, and I would be really cheesed off if it was my bike.

Ah, you didnt mention at first you had dropped the bike, I thought it had been faulty so judging by the pics I wouldnt hold out much hope of getting it fixed under warranty.  🙁

I would imagine it would be under warranty still, and BMW are pretty good with claims.

What make was the original tyre ?10500k seems pretty good to me I normally get between 9-10000k out of my tyres on a 1200GS, I have had Tourance's, Pilot Roads and now Continental Road attack, all of which are good but I ride mainly all road.

The speedo on my 1150GS used to read around 10 – 12% high at 100KPH when checked against my GPS, so riding around at 110kpm was spot on the limit. The readings on my 1200GS are only around 1 - 2% high at the same speed, so it was a bit of a shock to discover that for a while, riding around at around 110kph on my 1200GS speedo was in fact pushing the limit. The lesson learnt was never to take anything for granted and thank goodness I found this out pretty quickly  😛

I had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to try out a system 5 helmet and rode about a hundred km with it and believe me I couldnt wait to change back to my system 4.It felt as if it had no padding in it and it pressed on my forehead enough to start giving me a headache.Another point I didn't like was that when it was flipped open it felt as if I was wearing blinkers as it didnt seem to go up as far as the system 4.So it looks like it doesnt suit my shaped head so when I look to replace my existing helmet it will be a case of shopping around.

Hasn't the Bridgestone BT 020 been superceded by the BT 021 ?When I got Road attacks for my bike there were two specified, one for normal bikes and one specifically for BMW, and no one could tell me the difference !!!!
