motorcycle-usa.com has a first ride review of the 2016 model R1200RS, written by Bart Madson.
2016 BMW R1200RS First Ride Review"After a full day’s ride in Canada, I thoroughly enjoyed my time aboard the RS. It’s the sort of bike that will pass unnoticed by most riders, but I suspect a sizable contingent of Boxer aficionados have eagerly anticipated its arrival and they will not be disappointed. The RS completes the versatile R series lineup as a legitimate sportbike offering."Read the full report, see the photos and videos at: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2015/08/article/2015-bmw-r1200rs-first-ride-review/
It would seem to be the wrong time of year to be announcing Motorcycle of the Year awards, but Motorcyclist Online is doing just that. BMW bikes win in 3 of their categories.

UltimateMotorcycling has a review of the latest R1200R, written by Jonathan Handler.
2015 BMW R1200R Test – Willing, Able & Modern"There is nothing on the road that sounds like or feels like a BMW boxer twin. Just swing a leg over any model thusly equipped, turn the key — or in this case with optional Keyless Ride remote — stab the starter button, and one is treated to the unique bark of the, now, 1170cc motor."...."The 2015 BMW R1200R is beautifully crafted, amazingly well thought out, all-day comfortable, and ultimately a satisfying entry in the Standard category it helps define. It is retro if you want it to be, but willing, able, and modern enough to meet the demands of today’s serious riders."Read the whole review at: https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2015/08/05/2015-bmw-r1200r-test-specs-photos-willing-able-modern/
Thanks, Bwucie. Good photo which was stolen directly from the “About BMWOR” page, but I'm actually wondering whether to leave it there or not, as it's no longer obvious when there are new postings appearing under that sticky post. Without the photo the headline of the latest post would still appear in most browsers. Suggestions for improvements to that sticky first post would be appreciated.
The Australian MCNews web site has a review of the latest R1200R, written (and ridden) by Trevor Hedge.
BMW R 1200 R ReviewBMW R 1200 R Ridden And Reviewed by Trevor Hedge"Overall, the R 1200 R provides a relatively affordable entry ticket to best that the latest in motorcycle technology can bring, wrapped up in a comfortable and capable package. While the staccato beat of the Boxer adds enough soul, to remind you that this is still most definitely a petrol burning motorcycle you are riding, rather than some battery powered appliance."Read the full review and see the high-res photos at: http://www.mcnews.com.au/bmw-r-1200-r-review-2015/

motorcycle.com have now published the final answer in the 6-bike shootout. Pointers to the previous two articles in the shootout (track and road) can be found earlier in this thread.
2015 Six-Pack Superbike Shootout Final Answer! It’s Time to Pick a Winner.Well, they don't really pick an unequivocal winner. The scorecards say BMW, their hearts mostly say Aprilia. The complete 'final answer' can be found at:http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/2015-six-pack-superbike-shootout-final-answerThere's even a video for those who are prepared to have Flash Player installed on their computer.
Rider online magazine has a comparison between three European naked bikes, the Aprilia Tuono, BMW S1000R and KTM Super Duke R, written by Greg Drevenstedt.Rider Comparo: 2015 Aprilia Tuono V4 R APRC ABS, 2015 BMW S 1000 R, 2015 KTM 1290 Super Duke REach bike has advantages and disadvantages compared to the others, but the conclusion was: "BMW’s S 1000 R is the complete package, giving up little to the KTM in terms of comfort, offering performance on par with the Aprilia and delivering the best value. Fully kitted out with the Sport and Dynamic packages, our test bike’s $15,060 as-tested price is just $561 more than the Tuono but $2,339 less than the Super Duke, and it includes cruise control and semi-active suspension that aren’t available on the others. When it comes to civilized performance, the BMW S 1000 R is as good as it gets."Read the full article, see the dyno figures and the photos at: http://www.ridermagazine.com/road-tests/rider-comparo-2015-aprilia-tuono-v4-r-aprc-abs-2015-bmw-s-1000-r-2015-ktm-1290-super-duke-r.htm/
Ultimate Motorcycling's Ron Lieback has been testing the latest version of the BMW S1000RR. Apparently it finds favour with him, a self-confessed V-twin guy, even making him feel safe at 180 mph.
2015 BMW S 1000 RR Test | Feeling Safe at 180mphHis closing thoughts: "From a track standpoint, 1998 AMA 250 Champion Roland Sands who rode with me at COTA, said it best—the RR provides “absolute speed with absolutely no drama.” I concur; when a bike is this good, it allows riders to remain completely focused—something vital to not only quicker lap times, but also safety both on and off the track. The previous generation was quite good, but things only got better for the 2015 BMW S 1000 RR, which is essentially a perfected platform."Read the full story at: https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2015/07/16/2015-bmw-s-1000-rr-test-feeling-safe-at-180mph/

in reply to: New Member #18741I've put the ride (Coromandel northern loop) into the calendar, and details from the club newsletter in the Rides Calendar, Auckland forum. Rides to the south of Auckland usually start from the motorway service centre (BP) near Papakura, and rides to the north from Starbucks at Westgate. I doubt if yours would be the oldest bike on the ride, and it sounds like there might be a gravel option if that is of any interest to you.
in reply to: New Member #18739Welcome to the forum, Peter. Did you find someone with a GS-911 to help you out?The Auckland group is planning a ride to Coromandel on July 19. I'm sure you'd be welcome to join them. The ride is not (yet?) in the calendar here, but an Auckland BMWOR Facebook group which has recently been set up has the ride details.
