And a campervan in Hikutaia.
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6815Another motorised one. This one almost opposite the golf course at the northern end of Te Aroha.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5212It's not weatherboard, but it is abandoned. On SH24.
in reply to: Tyres for 1150GS #8663I fitted a set of the new Continental Trail Attacks on a 1200GS a few months ago, but haven't done many kms since then, so I haven't got any longevity data. However, they are the most road-oriented of the different dual-sport tyres I've tried, which suits me fine. So far I'm happy with their performance and feel.
in reply to: Subs renewal #8026It's there on my Mac, both in Safari and in Opera. Have you clicked on the ” Membership or Event Payments” link on the club home page? https://www.bmwmc.nz/ Not the forum home page. Doesn't the page it links to have two copies of the club logo, one with “New Member” and one with “Member Renewal” underneath? If not, perhaps you've been to the page before, and need to reload it to clear the old version from the cache.
in reply to: R1200GS broke down! #8052Getting carried away just a little further, a solid-state relay does not have a solenoid to pull in a set of contacts. You can have a relay without having a solenoid, and you can have a solenoid without having a relay. Whatever BMW call it, it's not exactly cheap.
in reply to: R1200GS broke down! #8047Sorry, my memory cells are starting to corrode. It was not cheap, and BMW do not call it a relay. They call it a solenoid. And together with a new O-ring and a small discount it cost close to $215. I have no idea whether you can bypass it as a temporary measure.
in reply to: R1200GS broke down! #8041Bad luck with the breakdown. That relay is a known R1200GS problem, and I'm surprised Henry didn't know about it. I was recently advised by Experience to install a new one, even if the old one was working perfectly, as they are sure to fail sooner or later. I now have a new one installed and the old one as a spare. It's a 10-minute job to do it yourself, and not too expensive.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5181Another old school building at taken "Taniwha" find that on a map 👿 taken last weekend, while looking for new back roads to ride. Phil
I think you'll find there's a photo of that school elsewhere in this thread (page 3). Not of the interior, though. There have been several club rides through Taniwha Rd and other roads in the vicinity. There's also an incorrect link on that page for one on Roache Rd, with a missing opening bracket. I'll add it here. For good measure also the Taniwha Rd one:
in reply to: 2007 BMW Safari in NZ #6114Most farms will have stock on them all year round. But as ours was only used for fattening cattle there was about a 6 week period from late February with no stock. The land is on a conditional sales contract, with new stock expected any day, so the opportunity has now passed. If I'd known there was any interest it could have been available for the last two months.
in reply to: 2007 BMW Safari in NZ #6112My main constaints are riding time and access to land, not the lack of suitable equipment. Oh, let's not forget to mention money, that's a major constraint as well.
It's funny. For 3 or 4 years in a row I offered the use of about 100 acres of farmland and forest for the month or so when there was no stock on it, free of charge for anyone who wanted to use it for practice. The first year the only response was a sarcastic reply from someone who wasn't interested. The second year Henry talked of doing a training day, but that was as far as it got. The third year there was not a single response. So I gave up.If you want access to land you need to use it when it's available. Landowners are not going to keep on begging you to come and use it if nobody shows any interest.
in reply to: Chain and sprockets for F650GS #7372Kerry at Motomail fitted new sprockets and chain on mine. I can't remember the price, but I got a rear with one more tooth than standard to lower the gearing slightly. The chain was a top-line x-ring. I didn't keep the bike long enough to find out how long they lasted, but with a Scottoiler fitted it should have been more than 20,000km.
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6795The wood slab letterbox is on Thomson Rd west of Otaua. The property sign is on Woodhouse Rd, heading from Patumahoe towards Drury.
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6793This one is not primarily for the letterbox, but rather for the sign with the name of the property.
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6792Getting away from animals for a change, here is a rather elegant and unusual one.
