in reply to: R1100RS Fuel Range #13350
A good source for specifications of BMW bikes is Phil Hawksley's BM Bikes site. The specifications for the R1100RS is at:http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/specpages/R1100RS.htmAs BillyBM says, the tank capacity is 23 litres, and wet weight is 239kg.It should be possible to get about 350 to 400km from a tankful before the reserve light comes on, assuming about 5 l/100km.
It seems that additional front and rear lights can be added, as long as they are called position lamps. For the full requirements look at the motorcycle inspection requirements document available at http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm-in-service/ They have to emit a light that is diffused, and must be visible from at least 200m in normal darkness. They are mandatory for motorcycles over 1.5m wide.
According to the vehicle tester at the local VTNZ no modifications or added lights are allowed on motorcycles. You are not allowed to add fog or spotlights and you are not allowed to change the way the indicators work. I would suggest wiring any extra lights so they can be switched off with a hidden switch.I wanted to add a strip of LED lights on the front of each handguard on the GS. No go. Although I may still add them and make them easy to disconnect or switch off for WoF purposes.
in reply to: New ACC Levies #13000The big mistake that Labour made during its term was to push for the full funding of potential liabilities by 2014. While National is proposing to push out the date for fully funding the residual claims liability to 2019, full funding ahead traps the scheme and the Government in a private insurance accounting model.
I think you'll find that full funding by 2014 was begun in 1999, at the same time as 'competition' was introduced, by the previous National government. Although it really makes no difference, since both major parties agree that it should be fully funded. Thanks for the information about submissions concerning the bill.

in reply to: Bikers Against ACC Levies #13055There's a link to the PDF poster on the “What can you do” page of the web page you linked to. So there should be no need to convert it to an image.A direct link to the poster: http://www.bikersagainstacc.org.nz/docs/poster.pdf
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5294This one on Wilson Road North may not be abandoned yet, but it must certainly be suffering from leaky building syndrome.

Some of us have the tyre pressures checked continuously while we ride. 😀

in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12546The acid comes with it. Probably not wise to send it by post or courier. You don't want to come this way for a ride, do you? Could also meet somewhere in between.
in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12543I have one which was bought for the 1200GS but never installed, and never had the acid added to it, so it should still be as good as new. Not a cheap chinese one. It cost well over $100. Yours for $60.
