in reply to: New ACC Levies #12981in reply to: Nitrogen Filled Tyres ? #12746
Hey guys – I am probably going to get myself a nitrogen filled camera to go with my nanny vest. Hit snow, sleet, rain ++ etc. going over Arthur's Pass last weekend and that messed up my taking pictures for the rest of the weekend – missed some stunning shots. By filling a waterproof camera with this highly controversial nitrogen stuff, they can get them to operate at minus 10 degrees C – no water vapour around the lens and electronics to condense. It will also be waterproof, dust proof, pretty rugged etc. but I know I am pretty gullible and it won't help my “hard core cool” image – maybe I should look at signing up with an image coach next. They have them in that big city up north I hear.
in reply to: Nitrogen Filled Tyres ? #12738Your'e right - don't have the green caps but have used nitrogen (see above) and a hi glow vest (see below)(just discovered you can't post pictures as you do with ADVrider)
The photos would look a lot better with the bike only. 😀You can post from Photo bucket http://photobucket.com/
Then I would have nothing to remember the ride - may as well sit in my garageTell me, is there a way to do it from Flickr?
in reply to: Nitrogen Filled Tyres ? #12736and the green cap bike riders will be wearing hi glow vest 🙄 😉Your'e right - don't have the green caps but have used nitrogen (see above) and a hi glow vest (see below)(just discovered you can't post pictures as you do with ADVrider)
in reply to: Nitrogen Filled Tyres ? #12729Has anyone used Nitrogen in their tyres ? If so why? Phil
Not sure if this thread is dead yet but I think it is an interesting question. I have not heard of nitrogen being used seriously outside of very competitive racing. With racing tyres temperature is critical for grip and this is effected by pressure and vice versa. It is the water vapour in the air that is probably most sensitive to temperature and therefore has the most effect on pressure. Bottled nitrogen is dry and a lot easier to get hold of than very dry air and I believe that it in itself also has less volumetric change with temperature change. Of course tyre warmers not only sort out problems with heat cycles in race rubber but they also reduce this problem of temperature and pressure change during the race. We have found nitrogen to give a significant advantage in sprint kart racing where tyre warmers are not allowed and you want good grip early and holding through to the end. I don't believe it would make any difference in road riding.
in reply to: R100RS plastics – cleaning product #12577They may need a respray with a can of Satin Black aerosol. I did mine and they came up looking as good as when I bought them new. First you would have to remove anything that has been used previously. A Wax and Grease Remover may do it or white spirits (or perhaps even a quick rub over with Brakekleen – but be careful it doesn't soften the plastic – I'd try it on the underside first). Then I would apply some ESP (Easy Surface Prep) to get the paint to bond (easily obtainable from most hardware stores and instructions on the can). After the 90 minute drying time you simply spray the panniers after you have masked off the hinges, locks etc.. Good luck if you give this a try
Thanks for that! It is great to have easiy to find updates of what is happening on the racing scene again. Pity about Ruben but especially when they are as positive as this. Please don't anyone upset it this time.
in reply to: Top box for GS #12376Attached is a picture of it fitted to the bike. I bought mine in Aussie. I was told that the NZ SW-motech agents (Darbi) are only bringing in the soft luggage range (Bags Connections). I found some in Perth that were cheaper than Twisted Throttle but they don't ship to NZ so I picked them up when I was over therehttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3328/3588165887_2d83d17219_o.jpg
in reply to: Top box for GS #12374Didn't see your post earlier and you may have already found what you are looking for. I have fitted a SW Motech Trax top case to my R1150GS and find it really great. Dustproof, waterproof and with some padding even take my laptop touring with me on occasion. Can be seen on http://www.mo-tech.de/sonstige_dokumente/trax.pdfI try to put the heavier stuff in the side panniers but can't say I've noticed much difference in the handling (unlike on my R90S) and I keep at least the top case on nearly all the time
in reply to: R1150GS ABS #12361When I turn on the ignition I hear the fuel pump from under the tank, no sound from the ABS untill I have moved forward a couple of meters when they click/scrape a couple of times, and the ABS lights then stop flashing, indicating all is ok. Hope that is of some help with what to expect
Another weekend coming up – please keep going Kiwi Adventure we enjoy your readiness to share! Quite honestly some of us don't care where your interesting updates come from and are quite happy to leave all that intellectual property crap behind us when we leave the office. If we don't believe what we are reading, and it is important enough, we can surf the net and find the source ourselves.
Please don't stop. I have found the info you have put up very interesting and it makes the site a great place to look for the info when you don't have a lot of time to surf the net yourself. If you find any picture sites of boxer BMWs racing, I'd like to have the address (do you have any Steve.B?). I found some from the 1000km endurance race at Hockenheim recently and loved that. I was surprised with our only one (as far as I know) HP2 Sport in New Zealand, how many there were in that race (different class to the 1000RR). (I posted the address under one of the other threads)
in reply to: Success for BMW Racebikes in Germany #12258Some more great photos of the many BMWs in this race can be found on http://www.1000km-hockenheim.de When the site opens click on “Aktuell” under “Bilder” and on the next screen there will be 8 windows of race photos. Each window is the collection of a different professional photographer. Of course on of my favorites has to be the Wunderlich sponsored “Daytona” orange R1200R. http://www.wunderlich.de/presserelease.php?mitid=54
I found them on e-bay. I think the company name was Top Shelf Parts but I can't find it now. There is a company Niche Cycle Supply which has what looks like the same thing. From memory they came under the brand name of “Mac”. Attached is a picture of what they looked like new
