in reply to: Wheel flange K2X/K4X models #18785
Reminds me of a time (about 20 years ago) back in the UK, I had a K1 which I used for my daily 120 mile round trip commute, plus weekend riding, oil/filter changes every 6 weeks! I could do all the oils (engine, gearbox, final drive) in under 20 mins!
in reply to: Altering valve timing R1100-R1200 #18554Just to be pedantic, these sprockets actually retard the cam timing to achieve their mid range performance gains. The gain is very “real world” and just where it's needed, where most of us ride, mid range!
in reply to: Fork it…………work required #13983Fork lower castings wouldn't be too bad to do in situ, but the lower triple would be better if removed, otherwise you cant get a sealed edge to the paint adjacent to the fork leg, it'll then only be a matter of time before the moisture gets under the paint and it starts lifting. It's really not a big job to pull the fork legs and lower triple off….
in reply to: Fork it…………work required #13980Been there, done that…pull the fork legs off, then the lower triple mount, power wire brush back to bare alloy. Hammerite do a good non ferrous metal primer, follow with their smooth silver finish, both available in rattle cans. Looks like new when done properly.
in reply to: Bus lanes in Auckland #13650The interesting part was that they plan NOT to allow motocycles in their future bus lanes as they want to discourage motorcycles generally on the basis that they are too dangerous Wouldn't call that a particularly 'receptive ear' ! Deserves to be named and shamed.....
in reply to: Old (really old) school mechanic wanted #13574just connect the 12volt timing light to a 12 volt battery! Doesn't have to be the battery on the actual vehicle.
in reply to: Accessory plugs for the "new" K’s & R’s: #12701Alex, It's not difficult to pull the voltage dropping bits out of the car type plug, then put them in the feed line to the smaller bmw socket, with a bit of heat shrink over them, then you have a socket with 3v or whatever. I did it to power my Garmin on the GS, worked a treat. Happy to make something up for you……
in reply to: New ACC Levies #12929The fees just announced are ACC's proposals to fix their shortfall. I reckon it's a psychological ploy, start with a mindblowingly high figure, then JK can step in and demand they are reduced, then we meekly accept an increase to 'just' $500, everyone's a winner! Time for some serious protesting I think.Campaign for more cheesecutter safety barriers maybe, much cheaper to saw us in half than fix us up after surviving a impact with armco.
in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12547I'm down in Taupo for a half marathon next w/e if I can help Alex…
in reply to: US purchases #12521I've got a mate in the US who will act as a middleman for any purchases if anyone needs stuff sent over. Same for UK, but postage can be horribly expensive from UK.
in reply to: Fork seal replacement 1150GS #12050Alex, I've had a look and I've got one seal and one dust cover, both bagged, never used. Let me know if you want them.Koko I'll mail you my bank details on Monday, don't have your addy on home PC!
in reply to: Fork seal replacement 1150GS #12048btw, it is very easy to do them with the fork legs 'in situ'more or less oil will have no effect on the handling....oil in the fork legs is for lubrication only, all the damping is done by the centrally mounted damper.
in reply to: Fork seal replacement 1150GS #12047Alex, Have you already got the seals? I've got one or two sat in my shed, still bagged up. Haven't go a GS now, so surplus, you're welcome to it/them FOC. Let me know if you can make use of them, and I'll check how many I've actually got. Think it might only be the one...
