Hell, I can't afford two. The original purchase isn't too bad, but the ongoing costs are enormous.Or two bikes.

Our house was trashed in EQ1. These days I commute in and out from Rangiora. EQ2 left us unscathed. Not sure if I feel lucky or not.

My TomTom Rider 2 (from Chermany) is mostly a novelty, but comes in handy when I'm going somewhere I haven't been before. Peerless in touring.I wouldn't bother when riding around your local area, but for touring they are a godsend. It's awesome knowing distance to go, alternate routes, stuff a map can tell you but not on the run.Just my thoughts.

Dear Mrs and Mrs BoGSer,My trusty GS had been driving me to work at the central Police Station since EQ1, and more recently through EQ2.Daffy (my GS) laughs at liquifaction, even when I can't. I have been close to tears many times since 22 Feb, mainly at the bleak months ahead. Daffy just keeps ticking over, eating potholes and shredding dust storms. The fate of my city is uncertain, but I always know I can head to the garage, push the go button and Daffy comes through for me.Ka kite.

I feel nostalgic when I see these buildings. Most of them are from rural NZ, where my family was born and grew up. Rural Southland, actually. Generations of our citizens have been born and raised while these houses have been built, lived in, abandoned and left to rot.Think about what has happened in the world since some of these were built. The first war, some even stood during the Crimean War. Then realize the history that has come and gone while these houses have stood, watching each sunrise and living with each sunset. Sons have come and gone, daughters have had their first kiss. What gives a building life is the history that lives around them, and as these houses, buildings etc pass into onscurity we lose that history they have seen.Just my thoughts.

Does that mean you're not coming on the GS ride then  😛

Have already communicated that to Paybug. Our house was destroyed in the quake, and money is such that I can't afford to damage the bike, as it's my work transport too. The ride I did the other day made me realize the risk in off roading, and I can't afford that risk right now.

I had a note from Artig today. He put me on to Mount Motorcycles.I rang them, and they are having a big stock clearout.Anyway, I'm a latte drinking GS rider, so I snapped up a BMW Comfortshell jacket for $450, a bargain in my eyes. Now I'll just have to get a Comfortshell pair of pants at an equally bargain price, and I'll be drinking double shot lattes for months to come.Ta to all.

Yes, if I was going to start all over again I'd consider the Andy Strapz. But I've already got the Beemer touring panniers, so I wanted a matching top box.JR, I'll post some pics later. How's the Givi plate? I'm going off roading on the GS adventure ride in Nov, so my cossetted GS will no longer look spotless.Cringe.

Forgot to say, the cable on the other bike (the one mentioned above as having a worn cable) actually didn't have the worn cable. The cable had been rubbing on the brake line, and had almost worn through the brake line.I'm sure some Merican had had that same problem, and had sued Mr BM for zillions.Ka kite.
