This one, just off SH29 near the Kaimai summit, was probably abandoned a few years ago. The chimney remains as the only evidence that a house once stood on this site. No trees. No level ground. Nothing but grass all around.

Oh so wrong.Clearly this fireplace was built by a bricklayer who was on a tenting holiday. He built this fireplace because the local govt had banned open fires.Tee hee. 👿

The screen is a Wunderlich Ergo. The bike has a carbon hugger, a Neptune exhaust, cool stuff basically. Don't know if the hugger is going to handle off road stuff, but there's only one way to find out !!I'm waiting to get the service history so I can see if the 40000km service has been done. I think that one is a big one, but at least that means I know it has been done properly.I'm wasting my life browsing Touratech, Wunderlich and lots of other sites. Is there a limit to the stuff you can buy for these beasts?

Actually, the thorough clean is always a great way to learn a new bike. I found a couple of things I had to fix, so it was worth the effort. Now I just need to go out and ride it.

SSSSsssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……………..I promised Daffy (it's yellow and black with a beak, what else would I call it?  😀 ) I'd treat it as well as the recently departed F800ST.Hey, funny story. The chap who rode away on my F800 mentioned that it only did 250 km before the reserve light came on. I had regularly had 320, so wondered why. When he said that he did 140 most of the way back to Wellytown I smiled and knew why.Daffy in pics will be here soon.

AAArrrgggghhhhhhhh…………………I am having a personal crisis. Have I bought a bike I should never clean? Should I just live with whatever I dirty it with?Somehow I am thinking that the bloke who invented the R80GS intended it to stay dirty, or at the very least get dirty. Maybe I shoukd just let the dirt take over, build a bridge and get over it.Ah well, that's why we love bikes, they challenge us and we learn a few things about ourselves as a result. The spokes are beyond cleaning, one day maybe they'll be replaced. Meantime, I'll just live with them. The headers are going to stay grubby, and my tube of Autosol isn't going near my bike. Thanks for the personal counselling.

The hard bastard that I bought the R1150GS from is riding the beast from Picton to Christchurch as I type this.It is raining, and it is cold. The Harden Up Boys ride would do well to include the hard bastard who's going to arrive on my R1150GS, and take my F800ST back to Levin. He's going to head straight back as soon as we have swapped.I can see that I am going to have to harden up, the GS seems to do that to people.Excited ???????????? YEAH BABY !!!!!!!!! 😀

It's being delivered to me on Saturday this week.I rode it in Wellytown last week, it rode like..................an 1150GS. It was heaps lighter than the 1150RT, and the 100RT. I'm thinking weight will not be an issue, and it's all relative. It's a bit tricked out. Carbon hugger, Ohlin shocks. The owner wants my F800, I can't blame him for that.More later.

Hi AllI received this at work today.Subject: Motorcycle Training Courses   Good Morning All,   Thought I would let you know the dates of the Motorcycle Skills Courses we have part funded (in partnership with Regional Road Safety (Maureen Bishop)) as a way to help address the rising number of injuries as a result of motorcycle crashes. Injuries from motorcycle crashes contribute to 18% of ACC motor-vehicle claims, when representing only 2% of vehicles on the road. From looking at the data, there seems to be a need for skills in both the urban and open road environments which the subsidised training is trying address.   If you come across motorcyclists you feel would benefit from up-skilling themselves through the course of your work, please feel free to put them in touch with Mainland Driving School (contact details on the flyer attached). We are trying to reach those who would not normally attend a course, especially those returning to riding after a long break (the born-agains). Where the younger population continues to be represented in motorcycle crashes, there is a worrying rising trend in the 35-50 age range too.   Dates of Courses:   On the Road Training (urban road skills): •    Wednesday 7th May •    Saturday 17th May •    Thursday 22nd May •    Wednesday 28th May   On the Track Training (open road skills): •    Monday 12th May - Advanced riding course at Levels, Timaru •    Saturday 14th June - Advanced riding course at Ruapuna, Christchurch   These courses are not free but are greatly subsidised to give those who would not normally attend a course an opportunity to improve their riding skills. If you would like more information on this initiative, feel free to contact me or Mike Flowers at Mainland Driving School.   Kind regards   Kate   Kate Bussell Injury Prevention Consultant Accident Compensation Corporation Northwood Branch 1 Radcliffe Road PO Box 5293, Christchurch

In the search for weight reduction, are the designers getting more adventurous but less cautious? Here is a wee problem I had a while ago. http://forum.bmwor.org.nz/index.php/topic,1058.0.htmlI managed to fix it myself, but now I have a dipstick that isn't long enough to dip. A replacement for this piece of plastic costs $56 plus GST, which is basically another example of the BMW extortion.I have been wondering ever since if I was too ham fisted, or if the designers have left the thing too fragile. Given your predicament, the fragility issue is clear.I don't blame you for being peeved.Just to add another perspective, I used to work secondary employment in a bicycle shop. I love bikes, so the work wasn't really work. Anyway, we used to get lots of kids (young males mostly) who would bring a relatively new bike back with a broken part and tell us they were JRA..................Just Riding Along...................when the part broke. No matter that they had probably been jumping over a small wall, or thrashing the hell out of their new bike. What this all leads to is the manufacturers being very skeptical of warranty claims. I can understand their reluctance.None of this makes me feel better about my dipstick, or your shaft. For heavens sake, it's an ENDURO bike. Surely it has to be fit for the purpose it is sold for, under the Fair Trading Act.Anyway, none of our sympathy is getting your bike fixed, but good luck, as we may all be in the same position one day. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😕 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

Wait for it, wait for it…………………………YEAH RIGHT.I'm not going to spend the next few months reading reviews of stuff like a gravel bash and waiting until it's my turn.I have ridden an F650 Dakar, and I know it isn't a beast. But then, the speed limit is 100, and it will do that all day.Anywhere I can go on my F800 I can go in my car too, so it almost certainly (money allowing) means I'll be on a Dakar sooner or later.Especially given the pics I just saw of the cool ride some of you did up near Wellington, Capital Coast something or other. 😮Love the pics. Just struggling to get over having chosen a bike which is awesome but doesn't do the stuff I am hanging out to do.Sigh.
