Sounds like it is time for a new battery. It is a battery voltage problem not a current output problemRegards boGSer

in reply to: Oilhead idle speed and idle adjust #11855Hi,Since getting my bike back from the Hall sensor replacment job, my idle speed is a bit lumpy 🙁 Can someone tell me the OEM recommended idle speed and how to adjust it - on the cable screw adjustment on the LH side injector or is there something else that needs a tweak? Thanks for your assistance.Cheers,Mike
Hello again Mike, these things have all happened before. Have a look at this link and do some reading. Before playing with the throtle bodies though you need to be well mechanically minded and have some spare time you also will require a carb sync tool.and the bike should have had plugs and tappet clearances set air filter checked replaced TPS voltage set or take it back to the bike shop. Good Luckhttp://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/index.shtml
in reply to: Intermittent ignition – R850R 1999 #11519Mikea couple of questions is the bike a Jap Import? And if you now have the bike in the shed on the main stand is the side stand up? The fuel pump will not run if it is down the same as using the kill switch or trying to start it in gear without pulling the clutch in. Another one of those known problems is the side stand micro switch. I'm still picking hall sensor failure or faulty wiring. ( insulation falls of the wires because of the heat and then short together )If you have some mechanical / electrical knowledge look at the link I posted earlier it shows you how to check the hall sensors with a LED you can remove the tank unplug the connector and set it up as per diagram and rotate the crank ( behind the front cover with the bottom pulley bolt. clockwise only ) to make sure that the hall sensor operates when the gap in the can passes through it. There are 2 sensors both need checking. Regards boGSer
in reply to: Intermittent ignition – R850R 1999 #11508Hi,Yesterday, I went out for a ride to make the most of the nice weather and prior to venturing off on a favorite road, I had a couple of jobs to do in town. Riding through town, my bike seemed to cut out on me and I thought that the throttle had jammed, but in my panick, I realised that I had my fist around the bar end stop as well 😐 anyway, I carried on and the bike cut out again which locked the back wheel and after a short slide and a gear change down, the bike bump started again and after that no further problems?I see the throttle is a "fly by wire" so I am wondering if there has ever been a problem with the throttle or ignition modules on these types of bike before?I checked the battery and it is OK and I am going to change the plugs. The last service it had was at 52000 Kms and there is 53450 on the clock now, so I amcurious why it should cut out like that? Any help appreciated. Cheers.
Hi Mike have a look at these links or google 1100 / 1150 Hall sensor these are available from JayCar Electronics @ $ 25 each there are 2 of them but you will need to be mechanically minded to replace them the whole timing plate from BMW $ 650 plusThis is a common problem on oilheads if it is cutting out and has no spark. But do some diagnosis first to check out the symptons properly.http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85136&pp=16http://bmwknowledge.wordpress.com/category/r1100/http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/oilhead_hall_sensors.pdfhttp://www.jaycar.co.nz/productResults.asp?whichpage=2&pagesize=10&keywords=hall+sensor&CATID=&SUBCATID=&form=KEYWORD&SPECIAL=&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=Good luck boGSer

in reply to: Helmet suggestions? #11025System 5 has a pinlock visor option better than most I have seen has silicone bead between the 2 layers I have one on my Systenm 4 great in wet weather no fog.Given the above and that Schuberth make the System Helmets for BMW it my be worth checking out the 4 - 5 visor shape and see if you can retro fit the inner layer from a BMW helmet to the Schuberth Helmet. All you have to loose is a couple of visor's or only 1 if you are very carefull. The BMW inner visors is removable when they are new. The sun makes the plastic harder and not so flexible as they get older. My 10 cents worth boGSer
Re throtle body sinc. Have a look at this link a piece of tube bent like a horse shoe filled with oil is all you need more accurate than mercury as oil is lighter therefore moves further when TB are out of sinc. I have a a piece of hard board with with tube hot glued to it with reference lines ruled on it at 90deg to the parallel tubes works well.http://www.650ccnd.com/mano.htmDont forget all the other things you must do before throtle sinc. Plugs, valve clearance and checking the throtle position switch voltage (oil heads ) are all worth checkinggood luck All the best boGSer
in reply to: after market hand protectors #10403Hello Roger, Welcome to the forum. Just to get this thread back on track. Are you looking for off road hand protection or wet/cold hand protectors. I have 2 – 1100 gs both fitted with aftermarket hand protectors with both aluminium / plastic construction. Wunderlich (fitted to one) have aftermarket sets desinged for the bike and bolt straight on I am sure Touratech also have these for sale. On the other bike I have fitted some Bark Busters this was by no means a straight fit. The biggest problem is getting around the front brake master cylinder. Getting back to my original question if you are after wet/ cold hand protection I have a very second hand set of original 1100 GS hand protectors that I would be willing to part with for a small fee if you are interestedRegards boGSer

in reply to: Removing Front Wheel Bearings #10195You need to pull the left hand bearing out towards the disk with a spigot bearing type puller then punch the right hand bearing out the other Heating hub to 80 deg C when using the puller to remove bearing. Hope this helps
