Hi Guys,Last night leaving work, my bike started and ran for a few seconds (choke open to warm up) and then it cut out and will not start at all. There is fuel getting to the cylinders but no spark?I tried the obvious things like plugs and wires, and did a visual of the fuses which seemed all OK, side stand cut out etc. I had to leave it at work so that a mate could give me a lift home, but am now wondering where to start looking.Any advice much appreciated.Cheers.

Did they replace the wires from the sensors up to the plug when you had this problemhttp://forum.bmwor.org.nz/index.php/topic,1473.0.htmlif not you have the same problem. The injectors wont be firing same as there will be no spark. Due to the heat and the poor wire used the insulation breaks down and any moisture and everything shorts outregards boGSer

They must be selling you second hand ones Jim. I have been all over the country - around the South Island twice, 2 up with all the gear (hair dryer etc) a lot of the time, gravel roads too. Mind you, I just changed the tyres on my 4x4 at 100,000 Kms - so maybe I am just not that wheelspinning type of bloke !

I think you are supposed to change them before they go pop 😀 😀boGSer

It would be great, if I could get some pic's from you as well. We'll stay in contact (BMWOR forum).cy probably in a view years.Reinhard & Veronika

HeyI'm looking at purchasing a Parrot sk4000 handsfree kit to mount on my helmet. I am interetsed in finding out if anyone else has used this product or anything similar and what there thoughts are. This unit will accept multiple bluetooth devices including mobile and bluetooth mp3 players which sounds like an economic alternative to the bauer range of products

We are using BlueAnt Interphone which started of fine but on a SI trip after instalation on the helmet and riding from Haast to Westport while 300mm of rain fell in 24 hrs water got into them. They say these things are waterproof but they did fail and where replaced under warranty but the warranty only remainded from the original time of purchase. ( 2-3 months left ) refitting these back on the helmet was not an option. I have made up extension leads and now we have them located in a waterproof lower pocket. We use these as intercom only but they can be pared to other devices but you have to switch between operations. Originally stated as 10 hr battery life, but in intercom mode they usually would run out after about 41/2 - 5 hrs I have just retrofitted an extra battery designed for an I-pod and am heading off tomorrow on a ride so am hoping they will now run for a lot longer. Other than that they are good, voice activated, turn them on, turn up the volume and go.Bauer have been doing this for a long time and if you don't mind being wired to your bike i would say they are probably still the best on the marketregards boGSer

in reply to: spoked wheel blues #12918

Hi Guys,For those with spoked wheels - x spoke in my case, do any of you suffer a similar fate that I have noticed recently? I have noticed corrosion marks on my front wheel X spokes and as they are reportedly stainless, I am assuming that it comes from brake dust and the dust when wet causes a small pit which the starts the corrosion cycle. The back wheel spokes do not seem to suffer the same fate.If you have had the problem, was a change in brake pad material the way to go and if it was, what did you change to. I am assuming at 56000KMS, the brake pads are as originally fitted? The pitting is only surface marks currently and I treated them to a drop of killrust yesterday and the spokes seem to be OK as they all sound similar when I ping them, so I am just looking for a permanant fix, rather than having to touch them up with an anti corrosive.Cheers, 🙁

Hello Mike, just my 2 cents worth. I am picking that at 56 000 Kms that the brake pads have been replaced already I would be checking them to see if someone has fitted aftermarket metal disc pads up front metal dust sitting on stainless steel wet will soon show signs of rust as you have stated. I would go back to standard BMW pads as these are matched at the factory to the disc's Reason I have had no trouble pulling my bike to a stop with standard pads some people say aftermarket pads work better less brake fade. But if you fit a harder pad something has to wear if it is not the pad then the disc is getting a hidding. Given the price of replacement Disc's approx $800-900 per disc I think I would rather replace the pads.my GS is nearly at 70 000 Kms and I have just ordered another set of front pads this wil be set # 3And as for cleaning the spokes Autosolve does a great job.Good Luck Regards boGSer

I've got a map that shows a Motorcycle Museum just outside Kopane (a little to the left of Palmerston North), but there's no mention of it on the Intermaweb, does anyone know whether it exists or not?Due to not paying enough attention in school, I find myself in Dannevirke for 7 days, I'm on day 2, and I've already run out of things to do.

Hello Alex, I have just found this on the net after Malcolm's phone call last night.MUSEUMSThomson’s Motorcycle Museum, Palmerston North. Open by appointment only. Phone 06-329-0862 or 0274-727-681 or Email: p.j.thomson@actrix.co.nzIf you had been down here a couple of weeks ago you would have been able to go and see motorcylces unleashed at the museum but it has now closed after approx. 8 months there where some nice bikes there the Britten of course Roger Freeth's bikes and replica of Kim Newcombes bike and the Worlds fastest Indian etc etc It was a great display Regards boGSer ---- Gerard

    in reply to: Revs/speed #12340

Thanks guys, as you say Dave a couple either way probably doesn't matter and it's very comfortable at 100 - 105 and has shown 110 + in good conditions but I'm not into thrashing it.  Just musing really in case I want to do an extended ride one of these days   😀  I keep getting restless when I see Alex and the others going off on their forays into the wild.  Yes Alex I've talked to Paul abouth his mates bike - although I haven't seen it as it's stored down south now awaiting it's owners return to complete his trip.  I was chatting to Mark Waters a couple of days ago and he took his DZ 250 to Queenstown and back for a couple of weeks over Easter covering most of the well known trails and tracks between here and there and had a ball.

Hello Malcolm, we have one of these (SHERPA) in the shed aswell it has done about 1800kms now when we bought it, it had had a 1 tooth larger front sprocket fitted to it. It gets along well with me on it on the open road at 100 kms in 6th gear, the motor sounds just fine at this speed, if you knock it back down a gear and gas it it still has plenty of revs left in it. I will have a look at the owners hand book and see what it recommends for gear change versus KPH for you.Regards boGSer

Those bloody hall sensors  😀 My bike has been running sweet since you redid them for me thanks boGSer. Was looking forward to meeting up with you again on this ride. Haggis and I needed another big bike on the 42nd to help swell the numbers  😀

Hi micawberism yes I was very disappointed not to be there. I have done 42nd before and was wanting to find out how the bike handled it this time. I have justed fitted a 21" front wheel. Looks like I will have to wait until next time.It is good to hear your bike is still going well I hope the we off on the way home hasn't caused to many problems.Catch up with you again soonRegards boGSer

Nice write up Garry, looks like I missed an awesome couple of days. I made it 6 kms from home before slowing down at an intersection the bike running rough and coughing onto one cylinder and stalling not to go again for a couple of days. The bl**dy hall sensor wiring loom insulation decided enough was enough and that was it, 7000 Kms after replacing the sensors. I should say to anyone who is replacing the sensors as a matter of course to replace the wiring with proper high temp wire up to the plug.I was disapointed on the day but given where I have been lately it could have been a hell of alot harder than calling home for a car to pick me up and go and get a trailer to retrieve the bike. Just think Southern Coast X 2 Makaiaro Track it would have been a long wait out there. Any way been for a ride and once again all is well.I will have to wait to see how the front wheel change goes in the rough stuff on the next rideCheers boGSer
