Likewise Alex, we had a good day and it was great to see so many faces.  Is there something we don't know about being the one to stop at a corner and point the way? we began to think there was a bonus for the number of times you managed to be on duty.  A couple of times we were next in line when two or three riders would roar past us jostling for the spot  🙄  Interesting that it always seemed to be the same few riders 😉  Good one guys. Thanks to all for a good day.

Sure did Alex, the shot of the group in front of the chopper was taken just before we lifted off.  The bugger flew low over the forest on the south rim then headed straight out over the edge into the canyon 😮 there were one or two sharp intakes of breath from the passengers  👿 Our Pics don't do it justice though all being taken through the chopper windows.

I don't think I ever met Scott but his obvious enthusiasm and love of riding made him a top man.  Our sincere condolances to Scott's family and friends.Malcolm and Jean

I did some research when I got my 1200 GS.  There do seem to be some out there that work but nothing came up with a guarantee so I bit the bullet and bought the BMW charger.  When you consider how much you pay for the bike I guess the price is not that bad and you wouldn't want to stuff up the canbus would you  😐Malcolm

Stayed for a couple of nights on our run to the Rally last January – excellent place and the walk to the falls is well worth the effort.  😆

My system 4 is 7 years old and I'm continually taken the visor off and on over the 7 years. The visor is still as tight as when new.  I have a new police system 5 waiting for winter so will see how this helmet lasts . I'm not talking about removing the visor, I have no problem with removing that - but constantly removing the pinlock insert could IMO cause wear on the eccentrics which may lead to loose fit thereby allowing air into the gap and buggering up its effectiveness.Malcolm

I would keep it installed Alex.  You can never tell when you may need it and I wonder if constantly fitting and removing it would eventually cause it to become loose which would really bugger it up.  😐  If you treat it as you do your visor it should last as long.Malcolm

Hi John, hope you're enjoying riding your new machine in this wonderful weather. Great choice of machine.  If you haven't sourced a BMW Rider's Manual yet – I have one here.  Let me have your postal details and I'll send it down to you.Malcolm

Not at all Alex, I don't have a choice.  😀 Not sure if Shoei use different shell sizes or not, ours are - Jean = extra small 53/54 cm.  Me Medium 57/58 cm.  The shells seem to be the same size when held together at the base.  The weights are also the same 1600 gms.  However they also give the weight of the helmet without accessories! being 1520 gms.  So I would think they make two or three shell sizes but a quick look at the weights of say a small v a large or extra large would probaly indicate.Malcolm

I have always bought the best gear I could afford and still do, but helmets are still a gray area. Hmm, this is subtle Alex  😉Yes i think you're probably right - fancy paint schemes do cost but don't add to safety much.  We both tried System 5 helmets when we were in the market last year and found them to be less comfortable than our 4s which were not as good as our 3s.  After trying all the available flip fronts we settled on the Shoei Multitech which is a very nice helmet and at $699 including extra tinted visor - pinlock system - - removeable variable size cheek pads and neck protector is extremely good value.Malcolm

I'd hate to bang up an expensive helmet and on adventure rides this can easily happen.Interesting that we tend to think like this Alex.  The year I bought my first fabric riding suit (Spidi) with body armour etc I did the Motu ride and nearly wore my old leathers just in case I fell off and damaged my new suit.  Fortunately common sense prevailed and I wore my new suit.  Just as well because I did fall off and the bike came down on my right knee cracking the knee protector right down the centre. 😡  Knee was bruised but OK - I wonder what it would have been like had I been in my old leathers!! 😥  Wear the best stuff you have, that's why we buy it.Malcolm
