OK Garry, that would make it easier for all.  Now I think about it and looking at the old photos I do remember Bill actually went back up over the rock just immediately to the right  of the ramp which was giving the smaller bikes so much trouble.  Jean has reminded me that he stalled the PD at one stage and jumped off, started up and ran with the bike and jumped back on and just gunned it up and over the rock, swung it round onto the “pathway” and away through the tunnel.  We all just stood there gobsmacked.  That pic takes me back, I wore leathers and had some brownish hair in those days.  And Jean's map stuck on my back side  😀

Early in the 90s Jean and I did the KR Awakino River Ride which took us through the tunnel.  We of course walked but many tried the deep black sand and struggled.  However Bill Biber was there on his PD and rode down onto the sand and had a play then rode back up the ramp and powered through the tunnel leaving many in his wake – a very skilled rider and impressed us mightily.scan0001resize.jpgscan0002resize.jpg

I don't really want to know this Dave  :cry:but is it an aftermarket job or the BMW affair which (I was told) was essential with the 1200 bikes? I had an Optimate tender which had done sterling work with my 1100RT so if this is working for you it could save others some unnecessary expense.

Could it be the “Ironique” not sure if that's the right spelling though.  Peter and Lynn took us there on our way home from the AGM and told us about the same place in Mt. Eden which has the same wrought iron art works.  Good food and a great ambience in both places.Malcolm

Thanks for the input guys.  Took it down as planned today and Seb ran the gizmo over it and decided the battery was stuffed.  So with new (expensive) 14 amp AGM thingy under the seat I should be good for at least another 4 years.  However he told me if I hook it up to my expensive BMW battery charger every time I come home it may!! last much longer.  So I can go to the Rally safe in the knowledge I wont run out of electrical power 😐  So I'm off to cut some lawns.See you at Pukeora soon.Malcolm

That's useful Alex thanks.  I guess that's why BMW changed to the glass mat in later models.

Thanks Alex, the battery in this is either a Gel or Gas matt depending on who I ask  😕 I think Gel but don't really know.  Just can't understand why no problems at all then ZAP gone overnight just a few days after a service???

I forgot to say that my steak burger and chips were excellent and very reasonably priced too – good one Coroglen Tavern.

Great ride today Alex thankyou. Sorry to hear of  your ooopps – hope not too much damage.  I cruised home quietly via Kopu road and was stopped at a check point where I was given royal treatment by the constabulary and a natty little key ring from the ACC guy.  They were really making a big effort with the diplomacy thing and get full marks from me.  Agree with all that's been said about the wet tar – it really is shameful not to mention bloody dangerous. I made it home at about 4.00pm and did a quick change to be at the Westwind by 5pm.  A small crowd of stalwarts with just a few new faces but we had a substantial meal finished off with a delicious array of deserts put on by Maria.  Mama Mia was about as hammy the second time around as the first but hey it's corny good fun and no matter who sings the old Aba songs they always (mostly) sound good and get the feet tapping.  Malcolm
