Good performance, economical, easy to maintain, go anywhere one or two up, comfortable etc etc etc.  I agree with the previous two writers, but might suggest that you also look at the 1100R which is a great machine (not as pretty) and you would get one for less than the 1150R.  Good luck.  PS (for Steve) edit was because I noticed a couple of extra “eyes” in economical

And we're worried about the proposed ACC levy on a 1200 machine! Nice idea though Dean.

Hi Genki, there are a few techniques for lifting and you will find one that suits you and the type of bike you have.  The two most common (I think) are described here: http://www.clutchandchrome.com/Articles/HT%20fallen%20bike.htmI prefer the latter using the handle bar and have picked up an R1100 RT using this method but have a practice with both on your lawn sometime.Good luck.

Thanks for organising this for us Alex, as you say Chris and his dad were excellent tutors and I've learnt a few things today.  Really good value and would be good to follow it up some time.

Well that's nice of you to say so Alex, but you obviously have more confidence in my back road ability than I do and any training I can get will I'm sure, be useful.

Surely most of the GSs would be running dual purpose tyres – this is Adventure riding training not trail riding isn't it?  I have Tourances on the GS but I'll bring the Sherpa with Trail Wings 'cause I noticed the words “mud” and “sand” 👿

Yes Dave a lovely spot.  Ther first time I went to Twizel was to watch my daughter row in the novice eight for Westlake Girls at Ruataniwha.  I left  home on my trusty Kawasaki 750 GT early Thursday morning and arrived at Twizel about 8pm Friday night.  Up early Saturday to watch the finals – partied with the other parents 'tll late and left at the crack of dawn Sunday morning to ride to Picton to catch the late Fairy.  Stayed in Welly overnight and headed for Auckland Monday morning.  One of my very memorable trips especially as the girls came away with a gold medal each.  Of course that was when I could stay awake for more than a couple of hours at a time – no way could I do it now. Humour me now guys (proud dad)  😀  she went back two years later (so did we) and won another gold in the lightweight eight.  We were on the GTR then and the trip coincided with the Ulysses AGM which was also at Twizel.  So I'm looking forward to being there again soon.

Can't wait to get on that Fairy, will you be joining us this year Steve?  For any “norf islanders” that feel like a stop over in Reefton we can recommend the Old Nurses Home as an inexpensive but lovely place to stay.  Still much as it must have been way back it is immaculately presented and managed.

You need a helmet on a push bike so why would are law makers allow us to make our own decision if we wear helmets or not on this toy. Just think we could half the Police force if we dropped half these nanny state laws.Every day on the roads I see riders of bikes and scooters dressed in jandals, shorts, T shirts, sneakers, etc etc.  In other words poor gear for riding on public roads.  If they have an accident (no matter who is at fault) and survive but require treatment it is another cost on ACC which translates to ever increasing levies for all.  I have no problem paying up because  one day I too may need some help.  But if more people took the sensible option maybe the levies would stop going up so I  wouldn't mind a few laws that had teeth and ensured riders were sensibly kitted out for safer riding.  Sensible you ask? ha ha take a look at the idiots standing on the beaches last week waiting to see the big waves  😐
