Thanks Bruce and all who joined us today, we have been wanting to see the Clydesdales for some time now and we were thrilled to have a good sized group and fine weather.  It has to be said that we (Jean and I) were a little disappointed with the venue, I'd always thought there were more horses and things to see, and although the cafe food and coffee was OK the wait was too much considering we had warned them a couple of hours  prior.  Nevertheless we had a good ride and we're now in the groove for our trip to Ohakune next weekend. Oh and by the way Bruce the other donkey was the one that missed the venue but donkeys aren't known for their eyesight eh.

If you haven't seen the Clydesdales yet Sunday is the day.  The Metvuw forcast is perfect as promised and the staff in the Cafe are primed and ready to go.  The main event will be those magnificent animals of course so do put it on your calendar – see you there.

Rob and I are planning a trip to the Riverhead pub by road to sample the new owners wares sometime soon.  Our place is a couple of minutes from Island Bay boat ramp and could be a starting off point for a paddle up there when the tides are right.  We'd even fire up the barby when we returned to make a day of it.  😛

Apparently not too difficult Alex.  Gordon had his ready to go when we arrived at the beach.  He then took it to bits  in no time after the paddle.  Quite cute really. I should have mentioned that Kevin and Karen also paddle a Klepper and have flown it to Europe and paddled down the Danube.  I got a pic of them today but my intermittant hand shake spoilt the result  ;D

Just so much to choose from and so many places to go.  Sorry we couldn't join you Bruce but we were booked for baby sitting weeks ago.  A couple of weeks ago I happened to mention to Kevin Sargent that we would be in the district this weekend and he invited us to join him for a paddle on Sunday 22nd so on Friday we headed off to Beachlands with the boats on the van.  Bright and early this morning we met Kevin and Karen with a handful of Auckland Canoe Club members along with BMWOR members Rob Hargreaves, and Gordon and Jill  at Cockle Bay. In the warm sunshine we prepared the boats and a small flotilla paddled across the bay and up the Turanga Creek to Whitford for morning tea.  Perfect, the day was warm and the water calm and in little more than an hour we were negotiating the mangroves to the boat ramp alongside the Cafe in Whitford.  I wonder how many other Auckland members paddle? this could be an option if we were looking for a change of pace sometime.Pictured Gordon and Jill in their collapsible Klepper double.P5220055.jpgRob H in front, Jean and Gordon and Jill. http://www.clydesdales.co.nz/index.phpWe've been wanting to see these majestic animals close up for a long time.  As the visit is the aim of the trip we plan to take a direct route crossing the river at Rangiriri and heading straight down to Pirongia to arrive about 11.30am.  We could then have lunch and do the tour or vicki verko depending how hungry we are.  You will see they do short wagon rides round the village which take about 20 minutes at a cost of $10 per person but this must be organised prior to arrival.    Expressions of interest would be useful should anyone feel inclined to take a ride.

Hmmm, had to think about this Billy, I think they (CanAm manufacturers) emphasise it is not a motorbike because it has three wheels and therefore doesn't handle in the same way as a motorbike, eg motorbicycle a two wheeled vehicle rather than a three or four wheeled vehicle.Simply what we're looking at is a motortricycle and as far as I can see it could easily be steered with a wheel just as the Morgan and other three wheeled cars.  I'm not sure if a motorbicycle could be steered safely with a wheel because of the need to counter steer but I'm open to offers.

This was a discussion point way back in 2007...............still nothing happend to date!!

Good one, however the current discussion started in a different in a slightly different vein and it was I think Gr82briding who raised the electronic V hard copy issue in this series of posts.  From available details he was not a subsciber in 2007 so  wouldn't have been aware of previous discussion. All of that apart the issue will be there until a change is made and I can't see that happening any time soon.Interesting though to go back and read the posts made at that time and I would think very few if any have changed their view.  😀

Thanks guys, I didn't know and it is useful but I think a bigger screen will stay on my list of must haves  😀

My prediction is that the newsletter will be around for a long while yet and my predictions are notoriously accurate  🙂

I hope you’re right Alex.  Some thoughts on this issue.  I am happy to download the rag and view it on screen or print it out myself.  Only problem with online version for me is that I would like to see the whole page on screen but I have to blow it up a little to read  😮 so only get half a page on screen.  Nice to see the colour though and  my next upgrade will be with a 22" screen ;D. I like to have a hard copy lying about the house because if I want to refer to it for confirmation of a ride or other detail I can lay my hand on it without having to log on.  I may pick it up to peruse a few times in the first days after receipt. Also for me it is much more pleasant to sit and scan the hard copy in the sun with a G&T than closeted in my little computer room.  If I take the laptop outside I have issues with viewing the screen in the sunlight. As far as I can see the only reason for going electronic is to save money? Why do we need to save money.  We cover (currently) the cost of producing the newsletter with a little over.  We have heaps in the bank on term deposit, however costs are going up.  Business cards for some of the executive is a relatively new thing and if the proposed exec and area rep meetings become a regular occurrence we will need to make savings in order to cover these expenses, or generate more funds in other ways.    I suspect for some members the newsletter is the only contact they have with the club and may be sufficient for them to remain members. Would we lose members if they didn’t get a newsletter?  Can we afford to lose members just to save money by going electronic? Would my perceived loss of members be outweighed by the savings made by discontinuing the hard copy newsletter? Probably but I would prefer to keep the members.  Would members be expecting a reduction in fees if we were not incurring costs associated with printing and posting a hard copy? For the time being I’m for having both.Oh and who was it who said “don’t regret growing old, it’s a privilege denied to many”.
