in reply to: Dead R1100R #12612$763 gone just like that 😡 Just replaced the starter on my 1100gs due to another Aquatic misadventure :-o. There were 2 in the country so you should be lucky 😀My old starter motor was only 14 months old and has a broken front housing. All the electrics are fine (it still spun over but wouldnt stay meshed with the ring gear). It could be yours for a couple of hundy plus frieght if you can use it to repair your starter.
in reply to: Gunnyrob’s beemer breaks again again #12556Just when you think you have done everything right 😮 (Shortened for quickness version 😀 )Hello, Jill from (insert name of whichever insurance company you hate) hereHi I am ringing on behalf of one of your members, he is stuck in the Motu Rd about 20 ks from the Opotiki end. He needs the bike picked up and taken to Experience motorcycles in Auckland. He then would like a rental car so he can go home as well :-D. Yes the Motu Rd, no thats twenty ks from the Opotiki end of the Motu Rd not 20 ks from Opotiki. 🙂 No I dont know if he wants to travel with the bike back to Auckland. 😕 Yes the info he gave me was that he wanted a rental car. 😀 You have to assess the bike before you can take it to Auckland in case it can be repaired locally? Hey thats not really an issue for me to deal with, my suggestion is you send someone out to get him and then when he gets to a phone you can discuss this with him. No thats twenty ks from the Opotiki end of the Motu Rd not 20 ks from Opotiki. 😕 No there is no cell phone coverage out there. 🙄 No thats twenty ks from the Opotiki end of the Motu Rd not 20 ks from Opotiki. 😮 So you are going to send someone out from Opotiki? 🙂 No thats twenty ks from the Opotiki end of the Motu Rd not 20 ks from Opotiki. 😡 Awesome I will go tell him he will be so overjoyed at not having to eat choc bars and sleep on the side of the Motu Rd until 9 at night :-D.Got to admit that there service (rental cars, bike transfers etc) all seem good Rob. But there punctuality needs some work 😉Glad your safe 😀
in reply to: Shinko 705 #12426My understanding is that Shinko is what used to be Yokohama. I had one on the back of my Kawasaki (can we say that here?). Cheap as chips, got an awesome ride out of it in the dry, good wearing qualitys but……………. (always a but) she was a bit slippery in the wet. A mate told me they were made of recycled viynl records but he was prone to exagerate 😀 Let us know how it performs Koko
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12242Couple of things to be aware of when fitting higher wattage bulbs, Greater power requirement producing more heat. 😮 If you go to a to higher wattage you can actually cause what is sometimes called smoking, this is when the reflector gets burnt by the heat and therefore looses efficiency. Also the plug on the back of the bulb can become cooked and brittle.Thats not to say you shouldnt fit higher wattage, just dont go overboard with it!! 😀
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12215Airhorns 😀 Now theres a fine idea 👿
in reply to: King Country Adventure #12231Using all my skills (or shit wil do for brains when ya lucks running) I managed to drop her on the same side every time 😀 One broken rear indicator and some scratches on the crash bars and head protectors. Fortunatly I had just survived a front end slide about three corners prior and had decided that the surface was not good. I had backed right off but sadly still not enough 😥 Neil who was with me commented that he felt there may be oil or diesel on the road but I couldnt see any rainbows. However its that time of the year in the naki when a lot of stock gets moved so may have been the proverbial “green rain”. Stock trucks are not supposed to be able to operate the drains for the effluent tank from inside the cab of the truck but I know a lot who can. They think its real cool to drain the tanks on a long slow uphill (it drains best then). Strange sense of humour 😡
in reply to: King Country Adventure #12229Those bloody hall sensors 😀 My bike has been running sweet since you redid them for me thanks boGSer. Was looking forward to meeting up with you again on this ride. Haggis and I needed another big bike on the 42nd to help swell the numbers 😀
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12209have you checked out these guys?http://www.beemerboneyard.com/34517685790.html
I have found that when I first had no ABS I was riding like a pussy fearing for my life!!! Took a little reminder that I have only ever ridden 2 bikes with ABS to settle me down. I actually found it a plurry nusiance on metal as you could not slide the rear with it on. I dont know if it was because of the bypass for starting I had fitted but if you sitched the ABS off then rode more than 7ks. If you came to a halt then rode off again the damn things reset and turned themselves on :-o. Its a neat feeling hurtling down a steep metal road towards a corner with the back wheel just making whizz click noise's instead of slowing ya down 😀Am I sad to see it gone? yes. Am I sad enough to spend money to fix it? na 😀
Forunatly I wasnt wearing this saftey gear 😀
Just a wee note re Garry's original statement about the helmet that started all this 😀 Had a rather hasty dismount on the way home from Tamaranui when the front wheel washed out on a corner over one of the tarsealed saddles 😮 (yes the bikes fine thanks for asking). Unfortunatly the shoei full face helmet I was wearing has a number of large scratches across the visor. On the plus side me big ugly hooter is still on my face 😀 ( I am quite attached to my nose, my mum gave it to me). I wonder if one of those clothes with the pretty cool deaths head thingys that some people wear would offer the same protection?
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12206The fault is caused by the battery voltage dropping too low during cranking. I had a mod done to my ABS so that the self test did not run until the alternater kicked in. Putting a new battery in may solve the problem but only if the battery is kept well charged.I also have a Jap import which no longer has ABS. This is due to a piston sticking in the unit and getting a quote of $4500 to fix it 😡 . I was told that the cause of the fault was poor servicing of the bike (in Japan). Get your brake fluid changed A.S.A.P if it hasnt already been done. Then do it every 12 months. 😀
in reply to: Kawhia Ride #12188It was good to catch up with those I knew and to meet a few new members 😀 Had an awesome ride home through the Hauturu Rd, Wiapuna Rd then down to the Mangatoa. About then I started to get serious about getting home. 🙂 Looking forward to catching up again on the King Country ADV ride. Although if this threatening rain works its majic I may have to reconsider throwing RiverDancer at the 42nd and Fisher's. 😮 I might have to buy a toy bike for those tracks 😉
in reply to: Re: Arai Freeway open face helmet #12122Real bikers expose flesh !
Would you by any chance have for sale any Lycra shorts, like push bike riders wear as safety gear ? And while I'm that subject how come cyclists can hold races on open roads? Its all to do with the "Lycra to Brain Ratio" It seems the more Lycra you wear the less intellegence you need to apply to your own saftey, plus the less courtesy you are required to show other road users, eg: riding five wide on a winding single lane country road then giving the finger to the truck driver who has just put a fully laden B Train off the road in an effort to safe your worthless life, But I digress 😀
