As opposed to not being careful of short drop offs  😀 Any ideas on how long (time) this road takes?

Got to agree with you Alex. You have to wonder what the results of “no chin bar”would have been? As far as purchasing helmets I use the wear it in the shop for at least half an hour test system. I have found that not all heads are the same (go figger) and not all brands fit all heads. Price is an indication of quality, however all helmets must comply to a standard. I have yet to meet a shop that will let you test ride a helmet but its probably something they should.Wish I could wear a flip front but I cant close them due to a large chin issue  😀 Bugger the noise, just wear earplugs  😀

The RS I had, had fully adjustable handlebars. When I first started riding it I found my wrist were getting tense and sore. Altered the angle of the grip and presto!! end of problem. Not sure of the set up on your 1200 but try altering distance from shoulder to handle bars by rotating bars forward or back. This of course all assumes that you have done the obvious and are an experienced "relaxed"rider who is not gripping on for dear life while trying to keep up  😮

Define “PING” Pre Ignition or knocking as it is known usually occurs at lower revs when the engine is under load (hard acceleration etc)My bike (R1100GS) has a pinging noise when accelerating out of corners. Its more of a tinkle than a knock so I have been looking at guards shrouds etc. I will be interested in what you find with yours Alex

Yes he rode across the bridge. I spoke to him today and apparently the boards that spanned the bridge are in such a way that he was able to ride across the broken piece. he did admit to walking across to test them first though. Unlike those of us who walk back across bridges to read signs 🙄

Retracing steps is not an option at the moment Kev, it is raining in Taranaki today and there is no way I would go near that track until at least 2 weeks after rain. Papa tends to be a bit slippery when its wet and takes a while to dry out. But then!!!CCA? ok enlighten me.If you guys are keen we could meet at Eight mile and do Ohura, Waitaanga's and a few others. Could even be tempted to try the Whanga Rd starting from the Pub end.Not this weekend though as I will be in Paeroa watching bikes go fast  👿Any time after that is good. I have some not so flash spare beds and a large garage. Lets make a plan  😀

A great adventure and a brilliant story 😉 Did you take photos

Sadly no. the only camera I took was my cell phone. It was all rather impromptu. The only photo that was any good was the bike by the bridge. Must get into the habit of carrying my good camera
