in reply to: Accomodation #9627
You stayed in TeKuiti 😮 What was first prize 😀There is a new motel on the by pass, other wise I would stay at the caves in Waitomo
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9592No wool sheds for this boy, 🙄 ewe can 👿 but I will sleep in a cabin after a very nice feed 😀Check out http://www.bushlands.co.nz
in reply to: Accomodation #9622Areas with comments on where we (thats all of us) have stayed plus comments on those? I think short feedback needs to be included as one mans castle is another mans hovel.I dont think it needs to be anything to technical just price, quality and location.
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9589Have given this some thought and I am not keen on doing this as a large group later in the year. It can get cold wet and slippery in the back blocks of them thar hills 😮 . I have opened up the run in another forum and if I get a minimum of six bikes by the end of the month I will go with it. Less than that and I will can it until next spring / summer
in reply to: Accomodation #9620Did both the Valleys Stephen 😀 Whangehu was by far the better. Sadly the brother in laws wife had taken the memory card out of his camera and forgotten to put it back, I only had my shoe phone and that would not have done justice to the views.A lot of Autumn colours starting 😀 . Some silly buggers are sealing the roads slowly but surely so do it while we still can
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9588Hi Col I cant make this date as well, it would be good if you could try and a range another time. Are we still on for our joy ride in the never never land this week end? 🙄
Had not got a reply to my last email so I was going anyway Kev 😀 Bugger the lawns. Do we have a plan yet? Do you want to do it all in one day or two?
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9587Well bugger as they say in Toyota land 😥I will check with the Accomodation and see if we can do it later in the year. People who own the beds and food are going on holiday to Holland 03/05/2008. Not sure when they will be back but I will find out. Wait right there and I will check some dates with them 😀Unless a heap of happy bikers jump up in the mean time and say yes yes the 10th works for us. 🙄
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9583Unfortunatly the accomodation is not avaliable for the following weekend. Its is avaliable for the weekend prior though (3rd – 4th ). I had origanaly thought of this weekend but was worried it may be to soon after C.C.A for most people. An option for running a week later would be to stay at the Whanga. $100 p.p per night is a bit of a cost increase though 😮Like all things in life, if enough want to, you can change anything 😀
in reply to: Eastern Taranaki gravel bash #9580I have been out to the back of beyond today and checked out our accomodation.Costs areMeals $30Accomodation $25 Breakfast $8I can assure you the food is excellent as they fed me lunch (as only country folk do) and I waddled back to my bike very fat and happy. There is accomodation for up to 16 people in cabins and a cottage with a communal toilet block and showers (bring a torch for those midnight strolls) plus a cookhouse for those who self cater.Beds have linen supplied although she was concerned that if we filled the place warm blankets could be a premium. A good sleeping bag might be a good idea 😀There are also tent sites avaliable for the hard men among us
Bad luck with the man flu mate, its a hell of a thing that wimins just dont understand 😀 As a thought if you still want to ride these roads you can hook in with us next weekend. I know its a long way to Pio Pio for you so if you want you can camp at my house friday night. Bring ya tent its a big back lawn, or you can have a bed inside if you would prefer. Have a think about it and let me knowCheerscolin
Hi StephenAfter much thought I will miss this one 🙁 The brother inlaw and I are going to do it next weekend and as he is based in Auckland we will be starting at the other end. I might be pushing my luck if I fail to mow the lawns two weekends in a row.On the plus side I have been giving a bit of thought to a weekend in Taranaki ride so will update you when its a bit further alongCheersColin 😀
in reply to: Proper Tyres for ‘new’ K1200 GT #9543Yes you are correct. Pirrelli and Metzler are one and the same now. I was told (by the Pirrelli Rep) that they are sharing technology with Pirrelli having a twelve month lead on Road tyres and Metzler having a twelve month lead on off road.I had Diablo Strada's on my RS and found them extremly competent. I got 16000kms out of the first set and was up to 12 on the second before a Triump took me out from behind (not that Im bitter 😡 ).Speaking to a gold wing rider they also have "special" tyres. The reason he gave me is that they are so bloody heavy that they need the reinforced sidewalls to stop the tyres flexing excessivly during hard cornering. Could be the same thing with the BMW. ABS puts no more stress on a tyre than a competent rider braking a non ABS bike correctly so you can scratch that reason. Torgue under acceration on the BMW's is no more than any other bike so really that only leaves the stress and strain of the extra weight of our beasts fighting the laws of physic's 😀Or it may all be waffle 👿
in reply to: System 5 helmet, would you buy it again? #9484I have not found it to restrict my vision ( but then I am half blind according to her). Cant see a problem with leaving the insert out as they are simple to fit and remove. If its not fitted it cant come loose 😀
in reply to: System 5 helmet, would you buy it again? #9476So long as you keep it adjusted and it cant move they are not a problem Alex. They work on an eccentric fitting which in the case of my helmet came loose. I now keep it on the maximum and have had no problems since 😀
in reply to: System 5 helmet, would you buy it again? #9471Pinlock is excellent as it helps prevent fogging. I have it on my Nolan VPS skid lid. A word from the wise though…. make sure you keep them tight. Mine came out of adjustment and allowed movement between the 2 layers, coupled with the dust of gravel riding and it seemed a bit foggy 😕 (until I spent some dollars 😳 )
