Ah yes, the great safety advice  😮We (the great unwashed) are being programed to do as we are told, by people who have no idea of how or why we are doing what we are doing. Armed with nothing but facts (they heard at the HSE briefing once somewhere but I cant remember where just now), they seek to enlighten us and make the world a better place for us.  ::)Instead of the WTF attitude your wife should have felt blessed to have been chosen to receive such wisdom  ;DPerhaps next time she could thank them by delivering tea and bikkies to the station to show her appreciation. 8)I am sure they felt quite put out at having spent 20 minutes of their time with the ingrate lol  😉

Try your suspension, yes I am serious. At the testing station are you seated on the bike fully loaded when the headlight is tested? You may have the rear end set a bit low.Try eating more pies and sitting further forward

Some brands seem to make the process a lot more civilised. You can even check by VIN. (Same firm gets onto them fast, as well, once they start the recalls.)

What's that note under the space where you enter your VIN? Are some Suzuki's not really Suzuki's mate  ;D

I don't think the average member of public would know/understand/try to remove a helmet, and any other post that ever raises the idea of first aid, I reply that helmets should only be removed in the most severe of situations (ie, they would be worse off if it's left on). Even as track marshals we do not remove helmets as there is a special 2-person technique. Medic only.

I have seen fellow motorcyclist's getting ready to take off others helmets, not much hope then that your Joe average public will be wiser. If the stickers states that important information is inside the helmet I would hazard a guess someone would attempt to remove it.As Artig asks, what information is available?

It may encourage people to attempt to remove helmets. Not always a good thing.

They missed two North of Awakino (one in the gorge and one opposite the Pub) plus one out the back of Kohuratahi. Other than that they have been fairly thorough.Among the many other tunnels that are in Taranaki are logging tunnels. A fine specimen off these is off Arnold Road.Good to see they included water drives as well. There are to many of those too number! Dug by hand, men were men in those days

We have extensive safety legislation in this country to ensure we are not put at risk. If a manufacturer is knowingly placing lives at risk there are legislative means in place to resolve this.We have very thorough consumer rights legislation. One shining piece being all goods must be fit for purpose.I am quite pleased with my BMW Motorcycle and the service I have received from over the years from our Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton service agents. I do however price and on occasion purchase parts from overseas. I also do as much of my own repairs as I feel capable of doing. Parts price wise I believe we are being wrought in this country by "ALL" vehicle importers and distributors. The poor retailer is unfortunately the low hanging fruit of the food chain, so they are easiest to criticize. Something we New Zealanders seem to be very good at doing. Generally the times allowed for warranty work do not allow for cleaning, inspection, paper work, putting tools away etc. It relates solely to the replacement of the faulty item. In a well equipped workshops with well trained staff the times are achievable.Having worked in a number of dealerships (admittedly cars and truck franchise's) I can assure you there is money in warranty work. Not as much as some people would like but the flow on effect of good customer relations is worth gold.

On the last MMMMM ride (Kiwibiker thing) a gentleman turned up on a new to him 1200 GS. He was suitably impressed that even though his bike was imported from England and he was not the first NZ owner BMW had contacted him about a recall on his bike.Well done too BMW for putting its hand up, owning a problem and fixing it  🙂

More an upright Tourer than an adventure bike in my humble opinion. Not enough suspension travel for a start off plus that muffler wont last long under the bike like that. Might be ok on a graded metal road but I wouldn't throw it where the current GS range go.

I think Gremlin may have hit it on the head! Why join the register? What is our point of difference that makes us more attractive to join than other groups? It would be easy to take the moral high ground and state “What you put in is more important than what you take out”Translates vaguely to why only join something for what we can get? The answer is of course "choice"Do we have an ageing group of members or do only old people buy BMW's? If young riders are buying BMW's then what type and where are they riding them and who with?During my stint as Area Rep for Taranaki I endeavoured to provide regular and entertaining rides catering to all levels of skill and interest. Turnout was extremely low sadly. So perhaps organised rides and events are not the focus of our current members?Club vs Register? Will it make all the difference? I don't think so, Facebook? maybe.I think we need more positive and inspiring ride reports. Both in our newsletter and in this forum. I think we need a better deal as far as services and backup for all of NZ not just small pockets. Bums on bikes, that's what we need, for us to succeed we need BMW NZ to succeed!  (but I could be wrong  😉 ).

Good to hear you have settled in well and are enjoying the mainland Alex. A lot of nice roads (and off roads) to play on down there.  🙂
