Tracyin reply to: Emission setup on NZ market bikes #5391I should have pointed out that this relates to the 1100, not sure about the 1150 and wether you need a CCP of some sort.
in reply to: Emission setup on NZ market bikes #5390Thanks guys
I've done some more snooping and come to the following:
Bikes for NZ/Auss/Canada don't have a CAT or any CCP plug.
They run a seperate "CO potentiometer" which you plug into the existing wiring loom. This is used for setting the idle mixture. If you remove the CAT & CCP and don't add a CO pot then the bike will idle rich. You can buy the CO pot from BMW dealers.
So, the config to aim for is:
As mentioned, remove the CAT
Remove any CCP plug, then remove the Motronic fuse for 1 minute to reset the unit.
Install a CO pot and set it with the bike hooked up to an exhaust gas analyser.
Apparantly, when you remove the CCP the motrinic unit ignores the O2 sensor.
Now I just need to find someone that can weld stainless steel.
Cheers

Tracyin reply to: Mini choppers and the law. #5347My wife recently read somewhere that LTSA is reviewing whether it is such a good idea to allow these things on the road (gee, ya think??).
Apparantly the guy who first started importing them was interviewed and he said he never intended for them to be ridden on the road.
I must say it beggers the mind that someone at LTSA thought it was a good idea in the first place to let these things be registered for the road.
And yes I totally agree... when these Einsteins start getting smeared all over the tarmac WE will be the ones who get tarred with the same gooey brush!
The only upside?? it helps clean out the gene pool...ohhh did I say that??? 😉
Cheers
Tracyin reply to: Oil & Petrol #4975Thanks for that Artig…you learn something every day and trust the yanks to be different to everyone else 😉
Also sounds like it's worth sticking with 98 too and getting better mileage.in reply to: Gear Change / Twisted burning wreckage problem #5384I’ve got the original BMW factory manual on CD.
It covers R, RT, GS, RS 1100's
Cheers
Tracyin reply to: Oil & Petrol #4972Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Man our petrol must really be shite 🙁
Reading on another discussion board, the Yanks all use 89 octane with no problems and suggest people don't waste the money on higher octane fuel.
So what the heck is ours made from... kero and cows urine???
Cheers
Tracyin reply to: Gear Change / Twisted burning wreckage problem #5382Hi Alex.
I recently imported a 2000 rt-P. I found the same issues and also found that preloading the gears makes a huge difference. On my bike it was up shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
I also replaced the gearbox oil with a fully syn 75/140 (TORCO brand bought from Segedins auto spares in Auckland) and that has made gear shifting noticebly smoother. You only need one 1 litre bottle which is $26.

Tracyin reply to: U.S. imports #4945Hello all
I'm new to this forum (the wife and I will be joining the register shortly) and new to BMW bikes.
I have just imported a 2000 R1100RT-P (ex-CHP) from California.
I was a little concerned that the VTNZ guy would knock it back on the headlight dipping the wrong way but it went straight through without a hitch! go figure!.
Tony, you mention it was easy to change this on your GS, how did you do it? Even though mine got through it would be good to sort it out.
Looking forward to meeting up with people once we join the register
Cheers
