in reply to: Wheel cleaner #12076I think some of those mag wheel cleaners can be somewhat corrosive so I'd check the can… and maybe be a little careful where you spray it ๐cheersTracy
in reply to: R1100R Steering #7059Hi Andrew ๐Just came across this old post. Feels like the damper on my 97 850 needs overhauling. Is it still possiblr to get those seals you mentioned?CheersTracy
Re Steering damper, my R1100S has got one and it also leaked, It leaked due to small marks on the rod due to its position copping any stones coming off the front tyre,[This can be repaired] after extensive research at Air NZ where I work I was able to source some superior seals [better than original] that work with synthetic turbine engine oil which I used after trying 7 different viscosities of oil to get the damping rate correct. Also have perfected a simple fix to stop shrapenal coming off the front tyre and damaging the hydraulic rod. If you need help with overhauling the damper you can call me at work and I could give you the information and the seal details and its an easy fix that you could do yourself. Work Ph 03 3747 439. Cheers Andrew
in reply to: BRAKE LIGHT INTENSITY #11946Regarding the fog light issue I have found the solution… stay away from Mr. Pernickity VTNZ/VINZ-man and go to a bike shop… my F650 with 2 spots and 2 fogs went straight thru WOF's at Mt.Eden MC and Haldanes with nary a comment.Yes... I like to be able to actually SEE at night too... and be seenย ๐cheersTracy
Ummmmmm....................I am a great believer in blinky lights, as a cyclist and kayaker (as a kayaker I perforce, regrettably, this evening missed the public meeting where the Auckland Regional Council will, I am sure, have hammered the final nail in the blinky light coffin for us paddlers). So far the Police have been kind enough to ignore us cyclists using them, although they ain't legal, realising they would be scraping flat cyclists off the road all the time otherwise.I am afeart that if you rocked up to a WOF testing station with these brilliant little stop lights working, you would be told to cut them out of the circuit before they would give you a new warrant. (Similar to their attitude if you fit two, not one, "fog" lights. Yeah, we know the "fog" lights actually have two zillion candlepower so you can actually SEE in the dark, but "they" don't need to know, eh?)
in reply to: The Chain gang #11923Hi Kokopellijust over 16,000km
From my time with an F650 (or as our american friends say a "sic-fiddy") The proof in this pudding was owning the bike for near on two years, never replacing an existing chain and only adjusting up slack in it once... just before I sold it ๐cheersTracy
So how many k's did you do during the two years?
in reply to: The Chain gang #11916From my time with an F650 (or as our american friends say a “sic-fiddy”) I found a useful tip from the F650 internet group The Chain Gang and that was to use atf (auto trans oil) oil. It is light and doesn't attract as much dirt/grit etc but unlike a lot of wax lubes it actually does “get in” to where it is needed instead of just sitting on the outside. The proof in this pudding was owning the bike for near on two years, never replacing an existing chain and only adjusting up slack in it once... just before I sold it ๐and yes... I love having a shaft drive again.cheersTracy

in reply to: A coupla questions about the R850R #11825Thanks guys ๐Mike, it has done 59,000. Two owners, always serviced at BMW dealer. Mostly in CHCH then at Experience where the previous owner got it from. Thanks for the VIN decoder, I'll run my VIN through it now and look to see if I have a lambda sensor.CheersTracy
in reply to: Gearbox noise #7170From what I have read on various Beemer “oilhead” forums it could indeed be clutch splines. This would mean removing the box and lubing the splines.I asked about this but my RT was a 2000 and apparantly this manual spline lube thing wasn't needed on newer models. Not expensive in itself... if you can do it yourself or get a mate to help... you also want to swap the clutch if it was getting a bit dodgy, while you're in there.CheersTracy
in reply to: What rack? #7153Thanks Garry, I'll email motohansa ๐Yes already onto the chain gang... helpful bunch of guys.CheersTracy
