in reply to: RT1100 Service and faults #12412
Gidday PeteThis place is a wealth of info and helpful folk. I have been registered there since my Rt1100 and now with my R850 still find it a useful place.http://www.bmwrt.com/Also, have you got a copy of the service manual? you can download the original BMW one on the net or buy a Haynes/Clymer type.CheersTracy
in reply to: Vietnam Bike Tours #12389Glad to have been of help 🙂But if you think Vitenam would be a shambles... Myanmar will be 10 times worse... now Thailand is another story 🙂You should find a TON on info here about the whole golden trianglecheersTracyhttp://www.gt-rider.com/
in reply to: Vietnam Bike Tours #12387These guys seemed to find a good place to hire a bike… personally though with two people and luggage I'd have got 2 bikes.http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Vietnam/Red-River-Delta/Hanoi/blog-384980.htmlcheersTracy
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12245hmmm… interesting.thanks for the headsup... might try one especially as winter is well and truely with us 🙂 ... and keep the +50 as a spare 🙂thanksTracy
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12243That's what I like about the +50's… still 55/60w but 50% more light. Particularly good for older bikes that don't have much in the way of alternator output 🙂cheersTracy
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12241they are about $24 singly or you can get a two pack 🙂cheersTracy
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12239Go to Repco. Get a Narva +50.same wattage but with better winding and gas 50% more light.I started using them when I had my Enfield BUllet because the output from the alt was so weak... made a BIG difference.CheersTracy
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12216I fitted some under the fairing on my RT so you could probably find room in an RSSupercheap autos sells a set with dual horns and a nice small compressor and they are usually around $30.00Have used them on one car and three bikes now and they are great 🙂cheersTracy
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12214Nice to know it's there if you need it but not a good idea to to throw caution to the wind and expect it to save you.
Agreed 🙂ABS shouldn't be an excuse not to develop fine brake control/emergency stopping etc.One positive spin-off I found on the 850 of NOT having it was that it left a perfect empty spot under the tank to install airhorns... now that is something I certainly WOULDN'T be without!cheersTracy
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12212Although I had ABS on the RT, buying an 850 without it wasn't going to be a deal breaker… if I'd been able to get the right bike with it then great but I have to say I don't miss it as such.I seem to remember only a couple of times with the RT that it actually "came on".I had the same issue with the RT and sure enough, a new battery sorted it out 🙂cheersTracy
in reply to: R1100R ABS #12207have you checked out these guys?http://www.beemerboneyard.com/34517685790.html
I have used these for years now and find them VERY comfortablehttp://www.heavywater.co.nz/hw_noise.htmthey are soft silicon and seal well without feeling like they are deforming your ear canal 🙂CheersTracy
in reply to: tire reccomendations #12172I'll get in on this thread as I'll be up for at least one and probably both tyres on the 850 in a couple of months.Currently it's running Metzlers... anyone tried these and Conti's and have a grip/handling/wear comparison??Back a couple or three years I replaced the dunlops on my 1100RT with Avon azaro's(think they were azaro's) and found they transformed the handling of the bike.cheersTracy
so… anyone had a knee-down lately 🙂cheersTracy
