BwucieI'm in awe.Are you a John Williams Fan? Do you play?P
in reply to: R1100RS Fuel Range #13357Yeah Dean, you have missed the point! This is to avoid running out of gas, which can be inconvenient.
in reply to: R1100RS Fuel Range #13355Would it not be possible to visually fill the tank asap after the light comes on. Subtract the fill litres from the tanks capacity and the result is the litres left when the light comes on. This works for me.To zero the trip meter on filling also gives a 2nd check on consumption. Most petrol stations will allow a fill if you ask although I now favour self service stations.
in reply to: Heat-pumps ? #12333Also need to check that the roof has an underlay. My tile roof has not and it is not very warm up there.
in reply to: Heat-pumps ? #12329You are right about wall mounts. At my last house the external unit was wall mounted on brackets attached to a brick veneer wall. The internal noise was not intrusive but you could hear it. At this house, the unit is ground mounted on a wooden base and it cannot be heard.Be sure to get an Electrical Certificate of Compliance.Check the operation of the remote controller as not all are user friendly.P
in reply to: Proper Tyres for ‘new’ K1200 GT #9545Regarding the ABS factor. As I was told, in a nut shell, the ABS sensors detect the flex under heavy braking on undulating surfaces which can confuse the ABS brain and release the pads. This effect would, of course, be totally absent for the competent rider on a non ABS machine. I don't know if I believe this or not. What I am unable to unstand is why special tyres are required on some bikes, sometimes front or rear or both and not on others of a similar weight. The list Dick indicated shows the many variatons of Z6 which I had from another source. It is not just Metzeler and Pirelli. The original Bridgestone BT020 on my bike were specified UU front and rear.Technical information on the need for special tyres is not readily available. Importers are, maybe, protecting their own interests as the market for each special would be very limited. Slak
in reply to: Proper Tyres for ‘new’ K1200 GT #9542You are correct JimBT020 now BT021.Every "expert" I contacted either had differing advice, didn't know or didn't want to know. There may be something to do with ABS.Metzeler said stability concerns and in their email reply gave the very technical reason that the normal Z6 would not "harmonise" with the GT. The carcass of the special tyres have 2 plies nylon reinforcing to reduce the flex in the sidewalls. Why? No idea! Possibly ultra high speed stability or stability under severe stopping. Guessing. This was all doing my head in so I have given up and fitted Pirellis. With a name like Pirrelli Diablo Strada they must be the business.Pirelli now own Metzeler. Both are made in the same factory in Germany. The tread pattern on the Stradas are very similar to the Z6.Price was the same also.Slak
in reply to: 1200RT Brake Failure Indication #9426If on a slope, put it in gear to hold you while the computer goes thru its start up check. Then, select neutral or pull in the clutch with you brake now applied and start the engine.Easier method is to turn on the ignition while still parked and before you mount.
in reply to: BMW’s GS Leads the Way in a UK Highway Initiative #9124I think Bwucie & Nick69 that you have missed my point in your haste to defend cops. It is not the cops on the street, by and large doing a good job, who make the rules but the faceless bureaucrats and politicians. Because they insist on results to show that something is being done to reduce the road toll, the easy targets of relatively law abiding and safe drivers get pinged and the street savvy vermin continue to drink, ignore road rules and speed excessively with little risk of being caught. Sure you get some but most are not and if they do the bleeding heart liberals ensue that the penalties are minimised by the court system. My main bleat is with speed cameras. If I get stopped then fair cop if I am breaking a law. But a machine left on the roadside during subrban peak traffic sure slows down traffic and causes more congestion, but misses the serious offenders. Please don't bother to defend speed cameras. I have heard all the arguements but remain convinced that the are primarily revenue collection devices.
in reply to: BMW’s GS Leads the Way in a UK Highway Initiative #9121Stupidty Tax— thats bollix. I see heaps of stupid driving and they don't get taxed. Re light runners, noisy exhausts, not indicating, not giving way, the list seems endless. But, stray 1 or 2 ks over and you get taxed, Maybe you just believe the spin.
in reply to: FIT ADDITIONAL HEADLIGHTS AND BE SEEN? #9069Adventure T may have had no problems but my experience differs. Then he was on the mainland. If it looks like original equipment then problems are less likely. Aftermarket gear can be a problem. If you have a spare hour or 2 you could check out this site.To save hassles, I suggest you take note of someone who has experienced difficulties rather than someone who got lucky. The real test can be when an insurance claim is made.http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/rules/vehicle-lighting-2004.html#21 To save you time, mbikes are classed LC and check out sect.303(5)
in reply to: FIT ADDITIONAL HEADLIGHTS AND BE SEEN? #9066There are some idiotic WOF rules for extra lights but the interperation of them varies between testers. On my RT I once had to remove the additional driving lights to pass.Simplest wiring is a fused lead directly from the battery and a relay triggered from existing lights. A hidden switch on the trigger lead in case plod gets pedantic. Or carry some side-cutters.You may get peace of mind from extra lights but I am unsure if you are any safer. In the city, 4x4's are the ones to really watch for.
in reply to: Trickle Charger, which one? #7778I found this site to be most informative regarding batteries.http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery.htmlSlak
in reply to: BMW system 4 helmets #6208I had the same leaking problem with the Sys 4. When I bought a dark visor it didn't leak. The original clear one was slightly larger so Experience replaced it and no more leaks. I now have a 4 and a 5. I use the 4 for work as it gets knocked about a bit and the 5 on longer rides as it is quieter but I will have to retire the 4 soon as it approaches 5 years.
