in reply to: Emission setup on NZ market bikes #5399
If you don't have a CAT stick the Zorst on then, if there's any emmissions issue, adjust the CO content of the exhaust gas at the CO potentiometer (left side of bike under the seat) with a medium flat blade screw driver. Just remember with any exhaust gas test all basic settings (timing, valve adjustment, throttle cable adjustment etc.) must be correct and the engine must be at, but not above operating temperature.
in reply to: Capital Coast Adventure 2010 #13679Got to concur, a great ride on Saturday. Being part of the sweep crew was a little more interesting than the traditional spot out front opening gates. Got the chance to wait until everyone took off before getting into it for a change. Even managed to get a few photos in the morning (different story in the afternoon though).Great to see the Auckland boys down for it!The sweep crew just getting warmed up.Usual group of rat bikes, hard case these guys. We ended up towing that Kawasaki 750 from Stratton Street to the lunch stop. He did sort the problem during lunch though (dodgy carb) and managed to finish the day.Craig Thompson got his first puncture in 169,000 kilometres (first of two of the day to assist with). He was running tubeless on the back and cut his tyre wall on the rocks. Fortunately I had a spare tube and all the kit to get it sorted.Good to see the other two sweeps helping out.Craig needed the tyre sorted to make this climb outI suppose if you're going to get a puncture, thereβs no many better places for it to happen. Here's a few photos of some of the bits you missed out on this year.We were going to do Clarke's Creek in Rallywood Forest. Sadly, the WRC decided the forestry road need to be widened and dropped a whole lot of gums trees on the top end of the track, no access for us this time around. But we scoped it out couple of weeks earlier. Would have been real messy had it rained though. This is one of the tracks we tried out in Transmission Gully. Unfortunately we just couldn't link the land access up this time around. The owner on this property changed his mind about a week out. The pipe line is the main gas line servicing the North Island. This is the only exposed piece of it.It also meant we needed to do some serious gorse cutting if we were to get bike through here. And did I mention it was really steep!!You might remember the first farm track in the morning and you turned left after the creek crossing and up the hill. Well, we were going to go straight ahead and up another hill, but this is what happens if that clay gets even slightly moist. Bad luck Eddie.Eddie also got a bit caught out in Trotter's Pines as it was a lot wetter than Saturday the week before. He was alright though. We got caught in the big Southerly rip that came through Friday the week previous. Loads of damage along Battle Hill. The thing is, you can't really argue when you have access to scenery like thisI hope everyone enjoyed the CCA as much as I did.

in reply to: S1000RR Designation #13456SHIT!Β REALLY RAPID
π π π I like that better Bwucie
in reply to: S1000RR Designation #13454BMW seemed to have strayed from the usual model designation tradition in the model name for this bike. Anyone know why?
The βSβ in S1000RR stands for Supersports, what BMW describes as βa new class of motorcycles" - note the plural. I bet a 675cc Triple might make that a realityΒ π The general consensus amongst the BMW marketing bods is that "RR" stands for Race Replica, although no confirmation of this.
in reply to: 32nd edition of the Dakar Rally #13257Shame neither Payen nor Lenoble finsihed. Not much coverage on tellyΒ π‘ SKY had a couple of hours of highlights (jolly good they were though!) and a fair bit of that time covering the bikes. Must say it looked pretty tough going in the sand dunesΒ π88 finished out of 161 starters, the only two BMWs being the 450s of Pedro Bianchi Prata in 30th and Pau Soler in 42nd.Next year the Dakar is going to be limited to 450 bikes only, so potential to do well.
in reply to: Daffy Reincarnated #13463Woo Hoo !!!!!!!!!!I sold my bike in a fit of madness. The Austrian who bought it was going to tour NZ on it, then take it back to the land of Cuckoo clocks. After he paid for it, he found that the cost of importing it to Austria was HUGE.So, I bought it back, as I realised how much I missed it. Now it is sporting his GPS, better tyres, and I love it more than ever.Life is good. π π π π π π π π π π π π π π
And he didn't even drop it that often eitherΒ π π
in reply to: BMW mechanics in Wellington? #13450My '07 F650GS is ready for a scheduled service.Β But as I'm new to Wellington, I don't know where to take it...Β πI've searched the forum, and have seen differing opinions about Motorad on Vivian St.Β And apparently there's a new BMW dealer Motomart in Lower Hutt.Β Anyone used Motomart since they became the official dealer?Β Others? Thanks for your ideas!Steve
I prefer to use an authorised dealer, asiide from supporting the dealer network you know you're going to get looked after. It was Motorrad (and Michael will still work on BMW bikes if you want) but it's now Motomart in Wellington and Rob is doing well.
in reply to: BMWOR Annual Rally 2010 #13409The “Brutale” looks real nice but I'm not so sure mum would be too comfy on the back at full noise !!!
It's aptly named that's for sure Alex. Up to around 6000 rpm it's quite tame, between 6000 and 12000 rpm things start to get interesting but from there to redline it's just unbellievable - and what a noise!! Imagine a Ferrari wound up but on two wheels. Those Italians sure know how to make nice toysΒ π

in reply to: AKL Dec.20 Register ride to the Nikau Cafe #13035Anyone interested in how we got on doing 3,800 kms through Northern Thailand a couple of weeks ago?
If you've got decent photos and can write a reasonable story Loins, I'm always on the lookout for newsletter material. This forum is a great medium, but only for those who access it. We have a lot of members who would be interested in your trip but prefer to see stuff in print. If you're inclined to share send photos as individual .jpeg files and some text in an email or attached word document to editor@bmwor.org.nzClose off date for the next newsletter issue is Friday 15 Janaury 2010.CheersGarry
