Tough buggers up that way 😀 Where did you stay in Ingonish? You know if you "come-from-aways", that is, your not a Newfoundlander, you're initiated to honorary Newfoundland citizenship by drinking "screech" (very potent Newfoundland rum), dipping your toe in the cold ocean, and kissing a cod. Just the sort of thing you'd do after a few "bears" no doubt.Sounds like you're having a great time.

in reply to: BMW S1000 RR racing here in NZ #13868Was anyone else chuffed at Troy Corser's podium finish in the second World Superbike race at Monza earlier this month?Ruben Xaus also scored a personal best ever race result, finishing sixth in the first race. In total, Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport scored 26 points in the manufacturers’ standings. Not a bad effort consdiering some weren't giving the team much chance of getting that many points for the whole season.

in reply to: R850R – it wont start??? #13782MikeIf it just stopped running without any prior indication of problems, most people will immediately point to a Hall Sensor failure. Might be true, might not. There are a couple of things you might try first though. Turn the ignition on and turn the handlebars right to left to the stops and back again. Does the fuel pump run continuously? If not check the wires around the control switch block. Check those wires anyway. Check all the wires around the head, a short in the wire from the tachometer where the wire crosses a frame member will cause this problem. On oil heads there are two Haul effects sensors mounded on a steel place the fits on the front of the engine behind the drive pulley for the alternator, check the pick-up wires. If you run the bike hard more often than not these do have a tendancy to melt, or at least get very brittle and crack letting moisture in. Also check the injector plugs on top of the control bodies, possible that there's a wire dislodged or broken there somewhere. At the extreme end, check the battery tray. Earlier models of the 850R had an acid battery, some without a breather pipe before that was sorted and if acid has spilled it would eat through the tray and compromise the wiring below. Like I said, an extreme possibility. Your other option is to find someone with a diagnostic tool or get it to a dealer, it may register and tell you where the fault lies.CheersGarry
in reply to: tyres for 1200gsa #13754Gidday PhilI've tried a Mitas E09 rear on the HP and for light gravel and dirt tracks it's not too bad - I did swap it out for a T63 on the recent Capital Coast but only because I want to make sure I had a bit of extra bite if it got wet. The E08, which is a bit more road orientated, gives pretty good grip on tarmac in the dry, but I don't think quite as flash in the wet, especially if you're loaded up, quite adequate though if you take it easy. They seem to perform well on loose gravel but I wouldn't be taking the bike anywhere too muddy. I haven't worn the ones I have right out yet but based on mileage to date I reckon they'd be good for 10,000+. I like the Mitas to be fair, they have a nice round profile and you get good feel when cornering with a smooth roll in as you lean over. Certainly price wise they are somewhat cheaper than equivalent Continentals, Metzlers etc. Having said that, I do rate Continetnals best, either Trail Attacks or TKCs depending on riding. I run my Trail Attacks tubeless but the TKCs have tubes (advantages in having two sets of rims :-D. You should be able to run the Mitas tubeless, unless your doing more rough off-road riding than not.CheersGarry

in reply to: Taking a fall #13710There is always enough time to take a photograph or two.
NOD, on it's side and not running is not generally too much of an issue. Plenty of time to get yourself together, have a coffee then think about how you going to lift the thing up for the sixth time that day 😀 😀Upside down is not so good 😛
