Yes, at last BMW have announced that there will be a GS bike using the F800 twin and frame. Rumour has it though that, unlike the other F800s, it will be chain driven. Apparently this was in this week’s Motorcycle News, and it’s not just MCN saying so, but direct quotes from both BMW Director Herbert Deiss and a BMW press officer. This looks like just the bike I, and many others, have been hoping BMW would go ahead and build, something with a little more power than the F650 dakar but with less weight and size of the big 1200GS/GSA boxers. It is due to be shown at the Intermot bike show in October in Cologne. Think I’ll be hanging onto my Dakar until one of these turns up here for a try out 😀

Great stuff Jim, at least you’ll get some time riding and the South Island is the place to do it. If you’re up in the Far North sometime between 8 – 12 May though, look out for a bunch of adventure bikes (pretty easy to spot as they’ll be filthy) and introduce yourselves. Have a great time on your travels.

Looks like a great ride Stephen, sorry to have missed this one 😥

Hobart was okay, but it snowed in the hills on Friday. A few bikes out and about over the weekend, great roads for it I must say. Very few people around outside of the city though. We had a good weekend looking around with visits to Port Arthur, Richmond and the Huon Valley, very picturesque, pickuresk, beautiful. Will go back some other time for a good look around up North.

Am off down South for Easter, hoping to see the HP2 complete the Race to the Sky sucessfully. Next ride is Far North Adventure early May. All good really 😀

    Harvey,

Each Australian State has a BMW owners club. Check out http://www.clubs.bmw.com.au/indexframe.asp, click on "BMW Clubs Australian Chapters" and click on the Club logo for info. Victoria has a great website, no doubt others have a forum similar to this. Enjoy your travels.

Not that mcuh chance of any rain down here Saturday. It’s been dry for the last two days, pretty heavy rain earlier in the week though. Can’t imagine there’d be much dust about and if we’re really lucky there will be a bit of mud about 😆

    See you there

    Scott,

Talk to Keith at John Baker Insurance 0800 656264. If you're buying the K100 privately, he'll arrange insurance for you at BMWOR rate if you're buying a BMW and you have the appropriate application ready for membership. Of course, if you're buying from a dealer, particulalry Henry at Experiance, they can organise JB insurance and membership at the same time.

Associate membership with BMWOR does get you insurance benefits.

    Cheers,

    Gidday Alan,

You'd need the original links for the lower suspension in order to convert back to original ride height. Hopefully, whoever sold you the bike has these if they lowered the thing. I doubt any of the dealers would carry these links in stock so, if you don't have them you'd have to get one of them to order for you. Other option is to put the word out among exisiting F650 owners who may have also lowered their bikes and see who is willing to give up original links.

    All the best.

Bwucie, exactly - and one of the main contibutors to our decison to move from Auckland many moons ago.

But, the point I'm trying to make here is that there is no doubt that some form of congestion charging is going to happen in Auckland. It will involve the Bridge, quite possibly double any charge of any other entry point in Auckland. If people want to get charged for riding a motorcycle into or through Auckland then great, do nothing and don't give a toss about it. Me, I like to think that as a motorcyclist I do my bit to reduce congestion on our roads (nothwithstanding that it is my prefered form of transport in the first place), minimise the environmental footprint of our vehicles, use less gas etc. As such I think this should be acknowledged and I should be rewarded by not having to pay congestion charges for doing so. If we can encourage the powers that be to think about motorcyclists a bit more when they make decisions there can be positive spin-offs for the industry as a whole. For example, an exception from congestion charging may well prompt others to think about getting a bike rather than a poxy second-hand Jap import. I'm well in favour of more bikes on the road than cars.

We have a sizable membership in BMWOR now. Time we had a bit of a voice in matters of this nature, don't ya think?
