in reply to: Wellington Overnighter – Waipukuarau 31 March #7319
Gary would have Jules email address.
Not sure, haven't seen him for a couple of years, think his phone number is still 0-3-455 6292 Paul Swift has a HP2 as well, so that's 2 down South.CheersGarry
in reply to: Auckland BMWOR Sunday ride 1st April #7334I've ordered heated grips for the HP so no problem with winter coming on :-D.
๐ ๐ Soft, or just don't have a decent pair of glovesย ๐A: who from - orignal part?B: how much? It's colder down here so I could probably justify itย ๐What bits and bobs you've got for your HP that you need to part with?
in reply to: Wellington Overnighter – Waipukuarau 31 March #7315Wow, great post!I'm really going to have to lift my game with future ride reports!Dave
Cheers, and welcome aboard Daveย ๐
in reply to: Wellington Overnighter – Waipukuarau 31 March #7313Thanks for sharing the ride with us all. I know of 4 HP's now in the hands of past South Island Safari riders. The last HP has been sold and that has gone to Jules in Dunedin. The next South Island ride should be fun with 4 HP's.
Cheers Dean, Magic that Jules decided to grab the last one. It's great (but no real surprise) that all 5 HP owners know each other and it's quite good that the 3 of us here in Wellington get together from time to time. It's an impressive sight all rocking togetherย ๐ Sadly, Tony C is out of action for a little while, he ditched his MV recently and broke some bonesย ๐ I look forward to the day all 5 turn up on the Safari.
in reply to: BMW Motorrad gossips #7309Bmw should start to look at the middle range size bikes.รย 1200 and then 650, something between the two I would say.
Unless something quite drastic has happened since I was at school, 800 sits between 650 and 1200ย ๐
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6784Lady in Clevdon made this for us whilst we lived in Auckland, it's moved around with us a fair bit since then. It's based on a picture of my cat “Buttons”, sadly departed at 18 years young around this time last year.
in reply to: What are they doing to the 1200GS???? #7028Someone likes it ๐ ๐
And do not see the 1200 with sidecar in the last posts ๐ก ๐ก ๐
It's just about to come over the ridge behind usย ๐ ๐ ๐
in reply to: What are they doing to the 1200GS???? #7026Cricky Malcolm, that's going back a bit now. I remember Phil's rig but don't think I have any photos of it. I'm pretty sure there was a write-up of our Motu trip (one of many good ones) in the August 1999 edition of the Register mag. Them were the days before digital cameras and the electronic media we have access to now, but I think I have photos of the trip tucked away somewhere. Was the Winter after purchasing my first 650 Funduro. I remember the run down Mahia beach with very thick sand and an exit point that was decidedly dodgy. At best, it confirmed my addiction to adventure ridingย ๐ The following year was one of the best BMW Safaris of all time and the Funduro proved itself a very capable ride.I'm heading up the East Coast on the way to the KR Mangawhai Adventure in mid-April, going to meet up with Oscar at Minginui with a bit of luck, so might make the detour out to Mahia to check the wall.Garry
in reply to: Freighting 1150GS to the UK #7154Hey team, does anyone know of a company that can freight my bike to the UK..รย รย I'm not heading over until next year.Dave
I'm told these guys do a pretty good job and you can get quotes online http://www.planetmove.com/_motorcycle_shipping.htm
in reply to: What rack? #7152Hi allJust wondering what people are using for rear racks on F650GS's? I want to fit a top box and I see GIVI do a rack but just wondered if there is anything else available over here... there are plenty of options overseas ofcourse but they aren't cheap and shipping would make them even worse.ThanksTracy
Looks like you're keen to get stuff for your GS - have a look at Wunderlich catalogue http://www.motohansa.com.au/docs/wl/F650.pdf.Motohansa is based in Sydney and ships here in four days at very reasonable cost, any questions just drop an email to Andy [sales@motohansa.com.au] and he'll happily help you out.The Chain Gang site (f650.com) is a wealth of information for anyone who owns a 650 and pretty much anything you'd want to know about a GS and how different products work/fit/fail/whatever is there - http://faq.f650.com/GSFAQs/AftermarketLuggageFAQGS.htmGivi is a good option as you can get it locally if you're not keen on orignal BMW options.Hope that helpsGarry
in reply to: New model R1200GS #7141I think it is just giving the option of getting all the 'goodies' on from the factory that most of us would like to add anyhow.Must say I like the idea of a different exhaust pipe, how much were you stung for yours Garry ?
Retail is about $1300 for the Akrapovic YJ
in reply to: New model R1200GS #7137Have you seen the brake pots on the new 800 series ? they look as if they were added as an afterfthoughtรย ๐
They need to be big for the big ass 320mm rotors and 4-pot Brembo callipers attached (with braided steel lines either side up front). Not really anywhere else to put them. Again, it's not like you going to hit anything with them eh?
in reply to: New model R1200GS #7135Sweet. But see still no extra protection for the brakefluid pots on the handlebars.
Then make sure you don't ride it upside downย ๐
Yeah I knew all that (Yeah right!!!)Lots of good info Gary, whats your new exhaust like ? was thinking about getting a Remus Revolution but didn't know whether it would be worth it.
The Akrapovic, which BMW now recommends/supplies as an option, is gorgeous YJ. It's light (the packaging it comes in wieghs more than the can), is good looking and produces a nice grumble at low revs without being too obtrusive, in the higher reve range it positively sings. Aslan has a Remus on his 1150GS and likes it.
