in reply to: Battery charger for 06 R1200RT #9650
Yep, we've been through this before. If your using an aftermarket charger make sure you hook it direct to the battery, otherwise you'll fry the Canbus system.
in reply to: Powerhouse Cafe #9641Either we caught them on a good day or you on a bad day 😀
in reply to: Whistling Frog Café & Bar – Catlins #9647We had a great trip Malcolm 😀 Half a day's rain over the whole two weeks and lots of excellent gravel between stops. Was planned so that we'd have loads of time to look around places and is exactly what happened. Everyone happy!!Have loads of photos that I will get around to posting evenutally. Been a hectic couple of weeks at work, Capital Coast coming up Anzac weekend (been helping John F with the route) and also got a newsletter to get printed 😐CheersGarry
in reply to: Road works #9610Yeah, ran in to quite a queue waiting a various bits of work between Amberly and Christchurch. Nothing quite like the HP to take on the gravel to the left though 😀
in reply to: GS (Gravel Suface) Adventure Ride – Tararua #9371Good stuff you guys, I was over Pori Road weekend before last, great fun. BMWOR 2009 annual rally (first weekend in January I think) is going to be hosted at Pukeora Estate. I reckon we can get a good group of GS riders together for a hunt around the area – Blackhead, Parongaheu, Te Uri etc. and of course a run over the Makiro track for those keen enough. Scott, it's your turf buddy, start thinking about odd routes your itching to show us more of. I'll be in touch.Cheers,Garry
I'm sure we've been down this road before sometime. The GS will run okay on 91, that's why it's got knock sensor, but if your running on 91 a lot you will end up with carbon deposits that don't help much eventually. The gas here in the NZ sucks for the most part. Best advice is to stick with 95/98 unless 91 is all you can get. Use the highest octane gas you can find and run some fuel injection cleaner every 5 or 6 tank loads, see how that goes.
in reply to: A Night at San Hill Winery #9318Yes, this turned out to be a great event. I offered to take gravel enthusiasts on a tiki tour to Pukeora. As it happens there was just one – me!! Too bad for those who missed it though, a fine trip essentially up the middle of the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay, with a wee diversion to the coast to have a look at Blackhead beach last thing in the afternoon. First stop was Tinui for a cuppa at the General Store.Great gravel from Tinui to Alfredton then a short burst up the Old Route, second on the left you head towards Pori. This is a fine piece of road. Imagine the twistiest bit of road you’ve done, cover it in gravel and dump a few truck loads of rocks over the top, you’ve got it – brilliant!!The view from the top of the saddle is pretty goodFrom Pori it’s down to the Makauri Gorge and left onto the Paihiatua-Weber Road, just a short distance on seal then back on the gravel towards Coonor. Great wide gravel road with sweeping corners – and no traffic!!Found my way along to Ormondville, quick refreshment at the pub and a photo of the train station. From there it’s across the Te Uri road and through the forest.Ending up at Pongareheu, where I came across the Z crew, for a look down the beachTide was too high to try crossing the river estuary on the beach on my own, so back up the gravel to Blackhead.Couple of beers then into the dinner and festivities. A great effort from people tying their dinner attire in with the German theme.Norm and Marie – the Berlin WallA German Shepherd (woof), POW and JS BachPlenty of FrauNot sure, but it was funnyVery GermanWe had a great time. Thanks Norm and Marie for organising. Also, Jo and I enjoyed the spin in Norm’s Z3, but got to say - we enjoyed the spin in Terry’s Z3-M a little more. Some serious horsepower there, sorry Norm. Look forward to next year.

White/brown is the speedo sensor wire. There is no better option if you're fitting a Pro Oiler, the whole point is to use the exisitng speed sensor signal - otherwise you'd be looking at a reed switch. You can if you want, but not quite as sweet cosmetically.CheersGarry
in reply to: Getting the most from my bike. #9093"track days"...what are they, how do we get to know what/where/when/who? - 😕
MotoTT holds regular track days at the Taupo international race track, take a squize at http://www.motott.co.nz for an event schedule. Also, Kiwirider mag has a good list of upcoming track days in the events section and if you take a peek at http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz there's always something being organised by someone, somehwere. Failing that, your local bike shop should have a few clues as to what's on.
in reply to: GS Adventures #9054I'm in, as work, garden and house renovations permit – will go anywhere, usually 😀I don't do tents or sleeping bags anymore 😎
in reply to: Rides – or rather the lack thereof. #9029You could just buy a GS and move to Wellington Barry 😀
in reply to: Tyres for 1150GS #8687Sold the HP yesterday.
Great that it went quickly and assume you got a reasonable price for it. Are you left with any bits and pieces I might be interested in that you want to get rid of?A G450 would be good around here I reckon. John F and I were out scouting some new access to tracks in Makara yesterday and the HP, while totally competent, was starting to feel a bit heavy by the end of a few of the coastal sections. The CCA is going to be a great ride I think 😀CheersGarry
in reply to: Motorad – Bad Service #8887The HP was in for its 30K service this week, once again excellent service from Michael and Carl at Motorad. I even enjoyed an overnighter with a Triumph 'Thruxton' in the interim. Motorad continues as BMW's service agent while other options are being considered. They just won't be selling any new BMWs, although you can still order accessories and any gear you might require.
Guys (and girls), check with Alex when he gets back from down South but the dates he has given me for coming Auckland events to be published in the Feb newsletter are all confirmed as Sunday rides. This one to Dragonfly Café and Art gallery is on Sunday 3 February ................... unless of course Saturday is a nice day and you want to go for a ride then as well 😀P.S. - remind him that the rubber bits are supposed to be the bottom 👿
