Brucie,I am glad you are OK. I had a similar experience 🙁 Nov 30 at about 1620 on the Ngauranga gorge in Wellington. I joined a seven vehicle pile up, last: I am often late for parties. I tried very hard to miss the car and hit it with a glancing blow on the right taillight. My 1100hundy RT had the light, top faring and mudguard broken. My left wrist joined in and my left arm in now in a cast. I await the insurance company's verdict on my bike. I spied your bike on Trademe yesterday, it's not in good shape at all. Keep save
in reply to: Boosterplug #13616;DI finally got the gizzmo fitted today. Yes it fits in about 90 seconds. I hooned off to the supermarket the long way (25kms instead of 5) and immediately noticed the RT was running smoother than normal and I could ride at 50Km in fourth with no snatching. I rode around the Countdown car park a couple of times enjoying the hassle free 1st gear riding: I cannot wait to get into a queue of traffic - damn easy in these parts. Not to worry I will take my medication later!CheersMike
in reply to: Boosterplug #13612I purchased one yesterday from http://www.sol2.be/Accelerator/English/index.html. It cost $85 at current exchange rates. I look forwad to all the good things you current users have talked about. Happy ridingMike
in reply to: Pannier bag rubbing strips #14266Garry,Thanks a lot. I have trawled the web for details like this so I really appreciate this info. I found lots of details about the panniers but not the fittings. I will get on to it as it looks a bit naf with out it.Cheers 😀
in reply to: Front tyre deflation #14246Thanks for all your helpful replies. 😀I have checked the front rim and to my eyes, it looks fine, but I have had a few nasty pot hole experiences, some a regular features of the road I travel! It does have a long valve stem and I am surprised how much play it has.The tyre is lasting well considering all things so I don't want to replace it.By the way, the back tyre holds its pressure without an issueAt the next service I intend to get a tube put in.Cheers and happy riding to you all 😎
in reply to: BMW K1600LT on its way #12856in reply to: Long-term reliability of BMW RTs #14047When I bought my R1100RT it had clocked 43K it is now passing through 110K in three years of riding, it's regularly maintained and most often riden 50 to 60 kms at a time. The only out of the service issue I have experienced is the fork seals. Having owned a few Jap bikes in my early days of riding, I really appreciate the “push the button and go” aspect of the Beema. It is surprising how often my clean bike gets taken for a much newer model than it is. Added to that warrents are a breeze. I was told by someone before I bought mine, the diff would pack up early on, I have heard losts of other drastic things too, but it's often one occurance of something gets spoken of as fact in all cases. An issue of the UK RIDE magazine (Feb 2010) had a thorough go at RT reliability and their verdict was there is not much that can beat them.Cheers
in reply to: Can’t describe this – watch and learn. #14051Sometimes you need eyes in the back of your head, but in this case you can see what happens when your concentration is focused, on the wrong things. Cheers
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12256Hi Mike,White LEDS have a way to go yet, but it's such a fast moving technology, we could have a soluton within a year.CheersMike 😎
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12254Sorry Mike,I did try but this system seems to have the better of me. For LEDS try:http://www.ledstuff.co.nzCHeers 😎
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12252I have just found a site for a good supply of LEDS which are suitable for your house, car or bike.Check out: 😎 Cheers
in reply to: Inter-Island ferry Crossing #13304I agree with all of the above. I have been on the ferry a couple of times and each time I was really glad I had my own tie-downs. The ones on the ferry are inevidably jammed. It's a good idea to park next to some fussy bugger as you can be assured his/her bilke will not fall.Happy sailing
in reply to: New ACC Levies #12964If this legislation is brought about because motorcycles are unsafe, I wonder then if there is a case for Transit and Councils to make their roads more conducive for us on two wheels; bicycles included For instance non-slip white paint, glue some grit on metal joins in motorways as they are like oil when wet, remove most of the arrows at intersections and get rid of the shiny tar bled surfaces. I read somewhere, I am trying to find the reference, that the Insurance Council of America, commented that bikes with ABS were 32% safer than those without. How they measured that I don't know. I agree with those who recommended the levy should be based on HP.Cheers
in reply to: New ACC Levies #12944It's my contention that it's only 5% of bike riders and car drivers that cause all the problems. Why can't the rider who causes the problem pay. For the the cars that have caused me most grief, they could pay if the evasive tactics were not used. Riding out of Wellington last night the weather was diabolical. I was in the company of two other bikes as we negotiated poor visibility and driving rain. An HD with ape hangers roared pasted us all and headed off between the cars, we were all doing about 90 kms. I guess we all pay for his risky behaviour. One size fits all never works.
in reply to: Lights on R1100RT #12251Hello Mike,I bought a standard bulb from Repco. I am not surprised with the result you got with LEDs as they are directional and therefore make quite good torches. Added to that they are not quite there yet, but I think it's a case of watching this space.CheersMike 😎
