Don't worry about the wheel flange more important recall overseas for a fuel pump flange near fuel pump leaking and catching fire. Or higher chances of being run over by a truck when one runs out of fuel with a faulty fuel strip. In the States they have extended fuel strip warranty parts and labour for up to 12 Years. But not hear  Whe pay $480 if You want it fixed. Can't complain just Traded in My K1200GT which I have had for 8years and have only had to pay for 3 sets of Tires and 1 battery and 2 services .I don't think the rear wheels going to fall off unless You use a rattle gun on it.

Sorry to hear about the the Royal Barge , no bike likes to go like that.New Bike?  Well it's all about how much You would like to invest?  There's not much out there that offers the weather protection of the RT.  There's  a few new models coming out that are a little lighter with average protection.Kawasaki Versy 1000 , Yamaha's MT-09 Tracer  both under $18k  or about to arrive BMW R1200 RS or the S1000 XR .  Kawasaki have their upgraded 1400 GTR out shortly but You are getting into more weight again.  What is the perfect  bike?

With regards to Your 2nd choice  Mount  motorcycles had a new F800GT with panniers listed for$17990  may have sold.  $20K  for the used R1200R seems a little rich considering  the runout deal brand new was $20K, new model is $25990.  If You wanted to go down the dual sport track  there's  a deal on F800 GS Adventure with alloy panniers $23990 brand new  or MotoMart have a near new one fully loaded $22990.There's to much choice out there, the more One looks into it the harder it gets.

Second thoughts the way motorcycles drop in value when the Ks get up a bit, just use the RT and if it all works out OK  and You make a few dollars buy a new RT LC . Claim the GST and depreciation . But You keep using the current RT for work. Just thoughts. Did those liner bags turn up?

They just sold all of the old models ( that's DOHC air cooled ) for $20k wich is a good price for a new BMW. Another good buy is the F800 GT for $18k with luggage. Then theirs the new R1200 RS due out soon, were do You draw the line. What about the new Yamaha MT-09 tracer $17500 with bags or will the Web Master bar Me from this site.

Whe don't have recalls in NZ to many back yard Mecanics, NZ has not even hade a recall for the fuel pump gasket yet were a lot of country's  have . Could cause a fire just as well the NZ Fire service don't charge to put out fires. Never used a torque wrench when putting a rear wheel on, just tighten by hand with small wrench and tighten by the every second bolt method and don't over tighten. No cracks yet but will inspect next time wheels are off

Came across 3 new ST 1300 police bikes and 3 RTs at the gas station today, they had been just around the Coromandal Loop, doing there Re certification .They had the day before done there twists and turns drill so no burnt out clutches.Tough work riding a bike most days but somebody's got to do it.(lucky Chaps).Daffy Your bags should turn up tomorrow.BMW make a F800 GT and GS police bike model as well as Hondas VFR800 and Yamaha make smaller XJ models.

I don't think You can expect BMW to compete with their higher spec new model , against Honda with there 10 year old design as good a work horse as it is. It all comes down to money and fit for purpose.Don't know how BMW managed to compete in the past, did they load the price onto the retail buyer?(That's You and Me) The dry clutches in there RTs get a hard time with all the slow speed training they do.Good on the Police for buying Hondas it's Our money they are spending and they have to show best value. Yamaha FJR 1300 was the other bike the Police tested.

Sounds like the Anakee 3's might be the tire of choice slightly more noise than PR 3's I had on before but a lot better than Anakee 2's.
