in reply to: matching tyres #9913
Sorry Alex. I was a bit rude. I am sure that as Bwucie says a good rider can ride on anything and get away with it. The way I see it is if you do not have confidence in your choice of tyres, you probably will not ride as well as you could . I'm sure we all ride for the enjoyment so if there is something about the way your bike is set up that you are not happy with, you will not enjoy riding so much. Have you ever found how much better the bike goes, after you have spend a few hours cleaning it? It's all in the mind Regards Phil 😛
in reply to: matching tyres #9910I spent half an hour mining the depths of the internet for any good reason (apart from mixing cross with radial) that I should have matching brands of tyre on my bike. There were quite a few tyre manufacturers' sites where, surprise surprise, they recommended getting matching tyres, but they would wouldn't they? They didn't offer anything concrete to back-up their claims, just said 'you should get matching tyres'. I don't feel any the wiser.
Don't you have a mind of your own? why do you want to have miss matched tyers? to save a few bob? maybe?
in reply to: matching tyres #9908I use a sports attack on the front with a road attack on the rear on my R1100S I feel the extra grip of a sports tyre on the front is worth having, also both front and rear wear out at about the same time. I always like to fit new ones at the same time. But hay thats just what I like No way would I ever fit tyres of a different make on each wheel. Phil
in reply to: matching tyres #9901I'm about to replace my rear tyre, should i also replace the front with a matching tyre?or is it ok to mix up brands etc?
Yes

in reply to: G650 Xch broken gear lever and shaft #9681Can you not claim in on insurance? after all you did fall off. I would like to know how you get on and who you are insured with. Phil
in reply to: R80GS high fuel consumption #9704If that consumption can't be reduced I'll have to trailer the bike down in 2010. Three bikes on a trailer and three guys sharing the gas must be more economical. However, we'd miss out on a lot of fun on the way down.Fun='s $'s PHil
in reply to: 1200RT Brake Failure Indication #9422This is correct, also if you have the brake on when you start the engine the ABS may not set until you re-start the bike with out the brake on.
Must try that on the r1100s Phil
in reply to: Mud photos #9238great photo Phil, hope you have that one framed.
I'm down your way on Thursday I'll call in Regards Phil
in reply to: Mud photos #9236thanks for the interesting background Phil - the Enfield looks quite a machine. Around the time you mention '68 I was a teenager in Dunedin with a '63 Triumph Thunderbird. In those days 350's were quite a handy machine - thinking of some of the famous marques like the BSA Gold Star. I guess machines like the Triumph Scrambler try to recapture that era.Cheers Stephen O aka Aslan
I used to ride a 350 "gold star" back in the UK when I was about 20 years old. It was a clubmans's model used to ride it to race meetings, unplug the head light etc, race all day and ride home in the evening. ( if you did not fall off).Great fun. Was to say the least very upset when it was stolen, one evening outside the speedway park in Southampton. Had to send the girl home home in a taxi. Sometime there is a down side? Regards Phil
in reply to: Mud photos #9234Times don't change much this photo was taken 40 odd ago. There must be lots more out there, lets see them Phil
good one Phil - is that you with some british scrambler - would love to know the story behind the pic - cheers Aslan 🙂
Yes it’s me. Photo was taken at a scramble held in 1968 at some place near Matamata. The bike is a 350cc “Royal Enfield Bullet” road machine that I cut the hell out of (see photo.) It was before the days of Jap imports. Geoff Perry and I used to have a great time racing each other at the back of the pack, him on a 350cc “Matchless” so we were racing for the honor of the marque. (Geoff was latter killed while road racing) If ever one of us was lucky enough to get a place the prize was $3.00 for first. $2.00 for second and you guessed it $1.00 for third. We belonged to the “Auckland Motorcycle Speedway club” if I remember correctly. Hope you find this of interest. Regards Phil
in reply to: FIT ADDITIONAL HEADLIGHTS AND BE SEEN? #9073Seems you have a "thing with people over 60 Dean" judging by your last few posts.
I agree. What is it with over 60's and you? With a bit of luck on your part you may get there, or are you over 60 already and you don't like it? 👿 Phil
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6830Re last letter box. Would be better if it was full of wine, not bills Phil
