in reply to: Brake Pads #5417
Hi Tracey,
Sorry the reply has ben soooo looong coming .... ( I have been traveling o'seas)
Anyways ... I got the contact detail for the dealer from the BM Service book supplied with my bike (I understand you may not have one if you haven't purchased a new BM in NZ)
BUT
I purchased today new rear pads for my R12RT ... (which are the same as the R1150RT) ... and the RRP is now only $154, and once you have extracted some discount from your dealer ... and if you cannt get any ... change dealers !! ......... it makes purchasing from Oz not that attractive any more
Stephenin reply to: Brake Pads #5415Hi Tony
I also was frustrated by BM's prices for the rear pads for my R1150RT .. so I rang a dealer in Melborne the price was HALF (still genuine BM parts)and with the current exchange rate .. etc
Used my credit card and within 7 days had three sets in my hand
I now have a R12RT and if the prices do not seem reasonable ... I will repeat the processin reply to: Helmet Intercom #4997Hi Guys,
I tried heaps of low priced units ... they were the most expensive as they all ended in the rubbish
I purchased a AutoCom 5 years and 100,000km ago, and love it ... it was expensive but the cheapest in the long run 😀in reply to: Oil & Petrol #4971Hi Tracey,
As for the oil ... I suggest given that it has to do the cooling plus the lubricating job best to stick with the best you can afford, like synthetic 20/50, also given the changes last around 10k, thats a long time for any air / oiled cooled motor
Petrol .... recommended is96 (no lower) I once put some 91 by mistake in my R1100 and it "pinked" very badly (this can be very hard on the engine) .... even on 96 when under load the engine can often pink .... I then changed to 98 (mobil or BP) in my R1100, then R1150 and now R1200 and although I don't believe that there is any performance advantage the engine definitely runs better it NEVER pinks
There has been screeds written on these two issuies ... my comments are based on my own experience over 150,000km on 5 x RT boxers
Stephenin reply to: Radar Detectors #4862As I have had the Escort for 3 or 4 years … and given I travel around 30K km a year on my bike … I really have lost count of the number of times I have been saved … but it is lots
Like my friend Steve B (the cop) says .. he who speeds in the wrong places WILL get caught, is correct ... so I am careful BUT its that time you relax a little in a 70kph area or those long boring straights where you speed creaps up that the Escort has saved me
Also it great security after you have overtaken a car ... got up to 130/140kph and as your speed drops down (short of jumping on the brakes) that you are vulnerable
Hope all that helps .... I assure you they are an investment (agreed not assurance againest ever getting a ticket) but you only have to save ONE !! and you're on the right side and without demerit points

Radar Detectors .... GREAT, I have a Passport Escort 8500 and I won't leave home without it !!
I paid $1500 a few years ago ... now they are around $600 (bugger) but I assure you I HAVE saved more $$ than that
I use velcro in the map section of my tank bag and place it in there ... the Escort is small and has a socket to plug in a lead to a buzzer in my helmet .. don't listen to anyone who says it doesn't work IT DOES ... you can still get caught but it does offer some protection
If you want one ... get one ... whoi cares what other say -
