in reply to: Pre-pay at fuel pumps #9363
Yep, peeze me off too, I've been known to drive away from a few. When I must I stand and stare at the attendant inside and they usually activate the pump. Keep flipping the nozzle cutoff on the pump and it makes a sound the money taker can hear. The Mobil station on the corner of Ponsonby and 'K' Rd has disabled the credit card aspect of their pumps and they only work with eftpos cards – w**krs. I'm fed up with being punished for others misdemeanors because the gas stand is too tight to put adequate staff on the forecourt! With the profits they make ( and dont anyone try to convince me otherwise) they can bloody afford to!How about a list of GOOD gas stations to share?
in reply to: New Member – Mike #9222I've had my R1100RT for 3 years and 64000km, the bike has a total of 93000k on the clock and still going strong. My problem was that, as I had a video camera mounted where it blocked the lefthand turn indicator warning lamp, I would ride along until someone zoomed up alongside and gave me the *-*-* hand signal. To sort this I bought a Kisan Signal minder.http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=SMIt's easy to fit in place of the current flasher unit and I really like it. The indicator works at a stop as long as a brake is applied, then has 8 seconds before cancelling itself.I've never had a problem with the indicator layout, it was part of the process of telling my brain what was different on this bike BEFORE getting on it for the first time. The horn is a pain though and the mechanism has been changed on the later models. The layout of the handlebar controls is quite different to the 1150 and 1200.I used to comment that the bike wasnt as nimble as my F650 was and the current Pres. used to grin and say "you still aint used to it yet!" As usual, he was right. I ride in crap traffic for Transit NZ on holiday weekends and am very pleased I ride a bike with 'presence'. I dont 'lane split with the panniers on as they are slightly wider than the mirrors, I take them off for 'work'. Practise figure 8 turns in a big carpark until you feel comfortable with full lock turns, takes awhile, is fun and very rewarding when you can turn around on the road while everyone else heads for the next intersection 😀BTW, I enjoy riding at night so I also bought: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/ (the same bracket and lights the 1150 on this page is showing, it looks like they are offering a different bracket now.) I've looked at the 1150 but dont like linked brakes. The 1200 has the can-bus electrics which are a problem if you want to do something simple like pump up your tyres with an electric pump from the accessory socket, adjust the footbrake pedal as your foot rests on it, or need to change the battery far from a BMW dealer and their flash computer.Regardless of my opinions, enjoy what you've got. Go ride yer bike!
I suspect Kokopelli modifed it to confuse us.🙂
in reply to: FIT ADDITIONAL HEADLIGHTS AND BE SEEN? #9082I intensly dislike headlight modulators and hope they stay illegal. Had some cruiser dude following me along Ponsonby Rd, I picked him up about a km away in my rear view mirror and it was a total distraction, kept looking for the emergency vehicle and not paying enough attention to the road ahead, hell, I could have run one of you over! All I wanted to do was knock him off his bike by the time he lane split up behind me!I have 2 additional high beam headlights wired through the dip switch, I never turn them on for WOF and I'm never questioned. Daylight running lamps that are on while the headlight is dipped are illegal, the headlight must be off. If Slak had a switch to turn them off while at the testing station he would probably have not had a problem. Saying that, his lights work as intrended and my attention is always drawn to the bright triangle he presents to the front. I do have a 'vizi-light' system that turns on the indicators while riding and I also turn this off when in the testing station, no point agitating the man from Mumbai.I'm too old to cover the hand brake. By the time I've worked out the best course of action my hand is there ready to do whatever and have avoided the kneejerk reaction that may have had me sliding unnecessarily down the macadam. Interestingly they also taught us on the 'Ride-right, ride safe' course not to cover the brake lever.I'm so old I now wear a hi-viz vest all the time and when I reach 70 I'll probably wear one on top of the other. I also wear a white helmet and often get mistaken for the constabulary. I dont mind, the 2 groups missing in the MC 'oh my gosh I didnt see you' statistics are police motor cyclists and gang members, I dont ride nicked american ironmongery nor do I have the proper bad arse attitude so I settled for being mistaken for the 'blue' gang. So folks, however you do it - enjoy the ride, it's worth it 🙂
in reply to: IS JUMP STARTING POSSIBLE? #8628I tried once but it can't get enough current flow through the light wiring to start the bike. I had to plug in the charger and wait for about 8 hours.
in reply to: Rear Brake Not Releasing fully #8235There are 2 caliper posts, one at each end. Separate the caliper halves and make sure the post is not rusted into the sleeve. They have rubber concertina boots to keep the water and dust out but mine failed at about 50000 km and the caliper wouldnt work properly. I had to get the lads at Experience to apply enough heat to get them apart. I pull them apart every 40k and grease the posts now.
Yep, I'm really keen on birthdays, especially mine. Although I suppose that when I stop having them I wont care 👿 👿
in reply to: PRESSEC Ride 6-7-8 July #8014Fit your snow tyres folks, we're off 😀
in reply to: Subs renewal #8019The membership area now has a new button just for renewals 😀
in reply to: Subs renewal #8017Hmmmmmmmmm…. I renewed online and knowing I wasnt 'joining' I only wrote $44.00 in the box. However, I see your point and will ask for it to be clarified. In the meantime, thanks for your kind donation 👿Just look on it as a part payment for the AGM or something but tell the Treasurer so she can code it correctly, we no longer give refund cheques. 🙂
in reply to: BMWOR AKL Lunch Ride to Tuakau (September 2) #7860Great stuff! We need never go to a place twice, there are many we havent tried yet. 😀
in reply to: BMWOR newsletter comes to an end????? #7930Maybe I need to clarify a thing or two, the hard copy will never be replaced with electronic copy. However, those that dont read the newsletter ( there are quite a few ) or would prefer to download it from the internet can send an email to the membership sectretary and ask him to cancel their hardcopy. Dont forget name and membership numberDO NOT DO THIS UNTIL YOU ARE ADVISED THE SYSTEM IS WORKING!To download the electronic copy in bulk ( maybe 200 per month ) we will have to pay an increased bandwidth charge, it is not free. There will be no reduction in fees, internet users will pay for our website. I would suggest that if you are a dialup user you continue to get the hardcopy. 😆The newsletter is currently published on this site in .pdf format, the photos are in colour :-D, and as this is how the Editor sends it to the printer, anything to make his job easier is good. 🙂More advertisers are welcome and you can see them on the home page, https://www.bmwmc.nz/ they pay $50 / month at the moment. That's all from me, ride heaps, stay safe and keep the sticky side down..... Mr President
in reply to: My favourite BMW 650 is: #7872Where is my Funduro????
in reply to: Club ride to Pauanui #7731Desamo, good to see you both today. Dont worry about sleeping pillions, it means they are very comfortable with your riding. I have yet to hear of any pillion falling off while asleep. I have a friend who used to ride from Tauranga to New Plymouth on a Kawasaki sportsbike, his girlfriend would go to sleep soon after leaving Tauranga and wake up while going through the tunnel after Piopio on SH3. She is a lot bigger than he 😀You do realise, of course, that if you dont want her to nod off the next step is her own bike 🙄
