If it makes you feel any better, I'm taking the bike to work today and it's raining, well, the road is wet at least 😀

Well there you go, I am now in possession of the bike and the BMW Rider's Manual says thisSolo  front          rear         31.9          36.3I rode from Napier to Plimmerton where I filled up before boarding the ferry.  I checked the pressures and found they were 40 psi in the front and 25 psi in the rear 😮 Adjustments were made forthwith!!Funny thing was, the bike handled fine and gave me no cause for concern.

Here's more now I've learned how to resize them!  By the way, have removed the dead sheep for cleaning in case you're wondering.  Have ordered a taller Givi screen for it as well $180 odd from Suzuki Sportzone.

Got my GS home at last, daffy has already been over to see if it's as clean as his!  Very impressed with the handling and in particular the fuel range, 320 km's from 16 litres with 6 to spare.  It has Oxford 'Hot Grips' too, a bit bulky but when it's zero degrees who cares right?  Have tried to post a photo but the size is too big so will take another then post it later.

As far as textile stuff goes I've always bought 'Teknic', very good quality.  Try and get gear that has the hard armour, a lot of other brands only have soft foam and claim it will protect you in a crash? I don't think so somehow.

Wellington from Napier via Palmerston North is the fastest by under an hr. Budget about 3 hrs. But via the Wairarapa is more fun, especially if you take some of the alternate routes. And then you also have the Rimutakas.  😀

Cheers, that's what I thought when I looked at the roads on Google Earth, the Masterton route looks much longer. And re: me and daffy, someone at work told us to get it over and done with and go and get married!!!Here's the beast anyway...http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=65734&d=1183962934

I couldn't find this topic by searching, so apologies if it's been asked before.  What tyre pressures do you recommend for an R1150GS on the road?  Ta.

Schoolboy. Tyres are made by people other than BMW. The manufacturer of the tyre knows best what pressure to run in the tyre he/she designed, so the pressure to run is what the tyre manufacturer recommends.Cringe, I can't believe I let you buy into the fold with a question like that..........................Tee hee.

Welcome to the forum Muppet. You are second Muppet here, the other one is called Kermit. :-D. It's only a matter of time now, soon you will be asking which tyres are best for the GS. You know you want one.

Thanks for that.  Yes luckily I'm a bit of a bike nut in that I read everything on everything, so I've got quite a good article in 'Bike' magazine on the best tyres for adv bikes, with regard to the road and track.  They use an R1200gs as the test bike.  As long as pde964 is kept on a tight leash, I might share the results of it with you all.  My GS experience is a couple of rides on an 1100GS a few years ago and a 1000 km ride to Auckland on a friends 04 1200GS (very very nice!) last month.  And yes you are right, I know I want one.  I don't want to admit that anything pde964 say is right, but he keeps telling me 'anything less is a compromise'  I swear I'm going to phone BMW and sell this to them as the basis of a new ad campaign for the GS!!
