I'm going to start a subsidiary to the above mentioned Filth My Ride concept.I'm going to employ the retentive Muppet to the company HR list. He will be fronting the Make My Ride Spotless franchise. No spot of dust is too small for Muppet to remove from your beloved GS. Sick of the road dust building up in the tread of your tyres? Sick of those nasty, nasty fingerprints that accumulate on your muffler?Make My Ride Spotless is the company for you. Call 0800 Nothing Better To Do, and Muppet will dash to your home with his polishing cloth. We will be offering a combo. Filth My Ride will filth-up your GS so you can impress your mates (free boot filth included) after which Muppet will return it to spic and span, down to the last German nut and bolt.Call soon, this offer is for an unlimited time.

Interesting....while I was at Daffy's house today watching all your tax payer $$$$ go towards the installation of a solar panel to provide free hot water for his dogs jacuzzi, I pointed out that the supposed "surface rust" on the spokes of our GS's was just hardened gunk which comes off with the very gentle use of a flat nose screwdriver.  This revelation managed to raise the eyebrows of the aforementioned duck billed platypus and I even got an excited "really?" in a "I can't wait to whip out the WD40 and Steelo once he buggers off" kind of way.  Doubtless the bread fed Avon River dweller is in his garage right now scrubbing his spokes as he yells out to his partner "I'll just be another 5 minutes love!" in the fruitless attempt to get his bike within a gnat's balls distance of being as clean as mine.  Sad innit?

Please go out and buy one, and let me buy it from you in three years.

Good plan to get your hands on a clean bike  :-D. I've bought my bike new 5 1/2 years and 91000km ago. It hasn't depreciated a cent, as it's not for sale. I bought it to enjoy and use as often as possible and it still makes me as happy as the day I've bought it. It now has a slightly used look to it, but I prefer to call it patina. You are right of course, buying and selling bikes is a good way to lose money, even if you're a dealer :-). The trick is to buy one you really want and like, then spending a bit of money on it every now and then is not nearly as upsetting.

I'm with you.  However when I do buy a bike, I look for a bargain and don't buy it unless it is.  You end up waiting for a bit but it's worth it in the end, means you can sell it for a good price.  Case in point the 2004 1200GS for sale on this site, I'd love to buy it as I thinks it is for sale at a great price, however 'er indoors wouldn't tolerate my buying two bikes in as many months.  My habit of changing bikes like Daffy changes his underwear ie: every eighteen months to two years, is wearing thin in this household without increasing the frequency!!!

I saw an F800GS, in black and yellow, in the flesh at Ruapuna on Sunday last.  The mechanic from 'Rides brought it out and I had a sit on it.  It looks awesome frankly, quite tall which suits my long legs but the main stand looks as if I made it, if you know what I mean.  It's like a 1200gs on a diet, I've read a good article on them and they say the fuel economy is amazing. I think $20,000 is a bit steep especially when it was parked near a 2008 GSXR750 👿 that costs $16995 (full fairing and all that) anyway, I wouldn't say no to one. 😎

What colour schemes are we in the colonies getting?  I prefer the black and yellow myself.

Well when people start to realise that running an amber light will cost them 50 demerits and a red 75, I think attitudes may change.  Currently there are no demerits for these offences, ya sure about that quote muppyYou're right, I stand corrected, having a blonde moment , 20 demerits for red light, cheers.

I don't like:Red light runners (Very much including cyclists and buses) Failing to indicate,  while pulling into traffic, turning or changing lanes.Moving into the turning lane without indicating and the indicating just before the actual turn.People racing up the inside lane and then pushing in, because their lane is blocked (which they could see well in advance). Not giving waySuddenly swerving into the other lane because their own lane is blocked (without checking for other vehicles). The guy who drives while using two cellphones at once, something did suffer and it wasn't his phone call.At the end of the day, it's red light runners that piss me off the most. They scare me more than a guy doing 65 in a 50 zone. Actually, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper stopping these guys with a decent driving test.

Well when people start to realise that running an amber light will cost them 50 demerits and a red 75, I think attitudes may change.  Currently there are no demerits for these offences, yet if you drive a car on a learners licence and fail to display an "L" plate you earn a $400 fine and 25 demrits 😕

Imagine if you had 7 cops, 2 patrol cars, 3 patrol motorbikes and a brief to target intersection driving offences? What would you do?Drop me some suggestions, it would be interesting to know what people want to see being dealt with by the police.Use your imagination. I'm looking forward to hearing some innovative ideas.Ka kite.

Are we getting another bike? Are we, are we? 👿

I think I might have found the problemhttp://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355997&highlight=r1150gs+clock+resetand I've just had a look and indeed the 3rd fuse had blown, anyone know where to go to get a new one?

No and no, I'll give both those ideas a try.  If this help the diagnosis, I just went out to the garage turned on the ignition (Clock read 0:00 again) put in the time again, and then made sure the minutes were ticking by and tuned off the ignition.  The clock remained on and then disappeared after 2 seconds.  When I turned on the ignition the clock had gone back to zero.  Doesn't the clock on the GS remain on all the time?

Sound like a great second bike for someone with plenty of cash or a real enthusiast or both :-).I usually don't ride shop bikes unless I am genuinely interested. There is no way I'd buy this without a lotto win, it's just too specialized for me. The problem with these modern sports bikes is that they are so good, that you need to go really fast to get your kicks. Long term you'll get caught out, one way or another. They are downright boring and uncomfortable at lower speeds and I don't have the restraint to keep them there. I like what you've done, one fast bike and one slow one. I haven't worked out which is what yet.I've just ordered some Elka shocks for my R1150GS. On impulse I got into a group buy on advrider. My Showa shocks are getting that jarring feeling again and they bounce around corners....see it's too easy to justify spending sh*tloads of cash on bikes, no point putting yourself at risk by riding any you can't afford.

What's the story with the Elka shocks?  Price? Where to buy? Why Elka?  Looking at doing the same at some stage.  Thanks in advance.

in reply to: Baehr helmets #9429

Does anyone have a Baehr helmet? and if so, do they recommend them. thanks

Do you mean a helmet with a Baehr system in it?  I use a Schuberth helmet with the Baehr system in it, if that helps.
