in reply to: Trickle Charger, which one? #7769Remac make a simple trickle charger that is generally reasonably priced, I used to retail them around $60.00.Steve
in reply to: Starter motor solenoid/relay wanted #7786Said with a smile, if it don't fit don't force it. 😀Steve.
in reply to: Which is your favourite BMW classic? #7798The R60 does it for me, as much at home on the metal as the tar, and can even cope with a bit of grass and mud if trials tyres are fitted 🙂Steve.
in reply to: Dismounting! #7800I have a friend who is also vertically challenged, he has a R100RT that they fitted a pull cable to the stand. When you stop you pull the cable knob (rather like an old choke cable, it is connected the upper part of the fairing) which pulls the side stand down into the extended position, so you stop the bike pull knob, lean bike to the left and it sits on the stand, you can then dismount. when you remount you stand the bike up and reverse the proceedure. It looked very tidy and many older riders remarked on what a good (simple) solution it was.Steve.
in reply to: clutch noise(?) R100RT 1989 #7788The rattle you speak about is generally caused by wear of the splines on either the clutch plate or the gearbox input shaft or both. It is normal practice to lubricate the splines around once a year. If this is done from new the rattle takes a lot longer to develop, but as it is a bit of a major to do many owners either don't know how to or don't bother if they do. It is unusual for the splines to wear so badly they no longer engage but it has been known to happen on high mileage poorly maintained BMW's. Most of the older boxers do it to some degree.Steve.
in reply to: Are cycle spedo’s legal? #7645you may find that your local garage probably wont check it ( the original ) they will just assume it works. I know my WOF garage has never asked . all tests are static ones not rolling.
in reply to: Rain-X or similiar, does it work? #5640I have used Rain X on my Nolan visors without any problems it worked extremely well inside and out, BUT when used on My system 4 the visor was history!! BUT after reading one of your earlier replies I have to conceed that I applied it to the interior and exterior of the visor. Would I risk ruining another visor to see if it was because I applied it to the inside, Well no I wouldn't. Maybe I will try the pledge suggestion as it seems to have been tried and proven.Steve.
