Have a look on Consumer, they have a data base of over 80 different models. ๐ ๐
in reply to: Where are all the airheads in Auckland? #12195yep there was an airhead division of the the BMWOR for several years, ably run by Nick Ploeg, when Nick needed a break it was taken over by a guy (can't remember his name) from around Papakura, unfortunately that is where it stopped, as far as I know he never carried on with the good work Nick had done. There is a very informal network that works on a needs type basis. the Airheads are out there. Though I have noticed that quite a few are coming up on Trademe having had the rego on hold, often for several years, perhaps the owners gave up riding because of safety or maybe age.

in reply to: Why crashes happen #11864So true! scary!!
Sorry Alex the only thing I forgot was my camera, I see a couple of photo's have been posted anyway, both bikes have 1000 or 1040cc barrels and both bottom ends are later than 76 so as to get the electronic ignition and the lighter clutch mechanism, what a great job these guys have done. The sidecar owner says he has very little maintenance to do between meetings as the motor is quite low tech.He did have problems earlier on when the motor was fitted with a (too) hot cam, it now has a less aggressive one which made all the difference. Kane did over rev the solo on Friday and bend a valve or 2. If anyone wants to build up a Classic BMW try Nick Ploeg as he has a wealth of all the necessary bits needed for not earth shattering prices. If any one has a spare high ratio diff 2.91-1 or 32/11 tooth the sidecar guy would be interested.
in reply to: Classic bike repairers/mechanics #11764try John Hartles in Glenfield.
in reply to: Lube Oil recommendations #11625GL4 for the R80 tho.
in reply to: The Bubba Scrub – An inspiring Jumping Style #11105There are a lot of good light weight bikes in the 350 to 600 range to be had without the price tag afforded to the BMW, DRZ's, CRF's, DR's, Freewind, and of course the older TT's and XR's. just remember that a numb bum will be part of the price you will pay on any of these lighter bikes, BM included. I look forward to a range of 40+ year olds doing the "bubba scrub", I'm sure A&E will be impressed!!
The good thing about woodhill is that it is rideable wet or dry.
in reply to: Which Airhead battery? #8721Thanks Alex. ๐
in reply to: Which Airhead battery? #8718Alex, apologies for theย slight topic shift, Could you please look at the face of your R80GS speedo and tell me what is the ratio written on it. It could be 2.023 or something or W793 etc. We are trying to source a second hand one and need these No's to identify the correct one.Thanks.
in reply to: Adventure Helmets. #10738I have enjoyed using the Nolan adventure helmets for many years, affordable and versatile.
in reply to: Two-up on an R1100S #10685Keep the R80RT even if you do get the 1100, there are quite a few riders who have done the swap and not really been satisfied, If after a year you are still in love with the “new” purchase then put the R80 on the Market. That being said Airheads are seriously undervalued these days and don't seem to bring much of a price so have the best of both worlds. On ride day you can pick which one you prefer for that ride.
