in reply to: Dec7 AKL Lunch ride to the Coroglen Pub #11275
Is anyone going on this ride planning to do the road section only? I need someone who is willing to look after a young lady rider from Germany on a SV650. She is not new to riding, but would benefit from being able to follow someone who is used to riding on the left side of the road :-).Gerda and I will take the gravel route to Coroglen and the 309 back to the coast.
Good luck with your ride Steve. I hope the weather will be fine and you'll get through all the sections. Be sure to take lots of pictures, especially from the Fisher track.
in reply to: Helmet suggestions? #11044I've bought the Sidi Discovery. They seemed a bit more substantial than the boots above._Motomail has them for around $350+ ? My next boot will be most likely be the Sidi Crossfire. They are comfortable and offer real protection. When riding deep ruts, past tight places or tree stumps you need a proper boot with plenty of ankle support and protection. That is you don't need it until you wished you had one, a bit like ABS really :-).For gravel roads a road boot should be fine.
in reply to: Milan Show: BMW unveil Lo Rider concept #11274It's a poser bike, clearly 😉 But who knows, maybe they'll look quite good in the flesh and maybe they'll even handle well. They'd also have to be pretty loud and they'd need knobbies to complete the scrambler look.
in reply to: System 6 helmet & Enduro Carbon helmet #11342Might be useful when you're stopped at traffic lights, so you can brace yourself before some drunk idiot runs into you.Other than that mirrors (on the bike) work for me.

in reply to: R850R or R1150R exhaust removal #11363Do you have Allen head sockets? The little spanners that come in the toolkit are probably not big enough. I was going to suggest heat because they may have used loctite, but the heat from the cat would have loosened the loctite a long time ago.
in reply to: Tree wins 2. #11333I hadn't realized that this had happened to Muppet. Steve.B sent me some photos earlier on. I hope he is much better now. The damage on that bike looks pretty bad, not likely to buff out or clean up. I hope he had insurance :-D.
in reply to: AKL Nov.16 #11143Yeah, that's a tough one. I spent the night inside the Newport Beach drunk tank in 1987, but I was able to go riding the following afternoon.
I only had three Coronas the night before, but I guess I am not used to it.
in reply to: AKL Nov.16 #11141Thanks for leading the ride, Dave. I've enjoyed reading your report, but I would have preferred to be there in person, instead of spending the weekend inside.
in reply to: My BMW Experience #11323I buy a lot of parts at Experience and they have always been very good. Neil knows his stuff!
in reply to: 2009 F800R #11262I guess it's the headlights that I don't like, they still look like some cheap spotlights to me. Upside down forks and some elliptical lights would have done it for me. But it doesn't matter, I won't be buying one any time soon. I bet it will be a hoot to ride, though. Good upright position and decent handle bars. Plus you don't actually see the lights when you're riding it :-).
in reply to: 2009 F800R #11260Interesting. Not sure I like the mini K1200R look.

in reply to: Next year’s Auckland rides: Suggestions please #11255Thanks Dean, you've got the job. Thanks for the list, Jim and Dave. That's something I can work with. With a bit of luck there will be no major clashes.
