Hi Kurt, welcome to the forum. When you say new F650GS, are you talking about the latest model? I can't imagine that they can be had for less that 10000 dollars. Experience BMW have a number of F650s for sale. Alternatively you can have a look at our local auction site called trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz, there are always soem F650s for sale.
in reply to: Whangamomona and Fisher’s track Adv. Ride #11594Ok, final call :-). Sunday morning departure at 7.30am from BP Papakura. We'll head down the coast from Raglan onwards into Awakino. We can drop off some of the gear there and proceed further down the coast before heading inland for Kiwi Rd and some of the others. Next morning we'll head for the Old Whangamommona road. At this stage I am not sure which end to enter it from, or if there is a connection from Aotuhia heading north. After that we'll head home via the rest of the forgotten world highway.
in reply to: Whangamomona and Fisher’s track Adv. Ride #11593You'll find the TKC more confidence inspiring on the road. You can lean it right to the edge.
in reply to: Oh No – NZ’s top BMW rider got a helicopter ride #11714Nice suit! Wow, that IS a dynamic sporty look!Though it seems a bit em, gathered, through the middle.
I am sure it will stretch a bit, to suit a more manly figure.
in reply to: Annual Rally and East Cape Tour #11676PS Gerda didn't her jacket too dirty I hope.
Funny you should mention that :-). There have been complaints, but it's good as new after a wash.
in reply to: Intermittent ignition – R850R 1999 #11516Thanks for posting that, Mike. So you've had a clogged fuel filter. When I changed my fuel filter at 89000km (9000km past the interval) I just wiggled the hose off and replaced the filter. The original clamps where left on. Maybe that's what Bay Motorcycles did at the time. You might have picked a bad fuel, that clogged your filter. The workshop will plug in a computer called moditec to check for any fault codes, they also use it during the tune up.Let's hope your problem has been solved.Cheers,Alex
in reply to: Whangamomona and Fisher’s track Adv. Ride #11591I've booked two twin rooms in the Awakino Hotel. That leaves the option of one more person joining us.
in reply to: Whangamomona and Fisher’s track Adv. Ride #11590We'll be coming down Mangatoa Rd and will probably stay at the Awakino Hotel. Haggis and Richard K. have confirmed. Three people is a good number, but anyone else is welcome. The longterm forecast looks good at the moment, time enough for the papa to dry out, I hope.
in reply to: Oh No – NZ’s top BMW rider got a helicopter ride #11707Chris McArdle showed us his helmet at the Rally. He had had a recent off just out of Coromandel. His helmet was actually cracked, but his head was fine, well just as it was before :-).Looks like the wait had been worth it for you. Will you get the same one again?
in reply to: Tyre for GSA #11716I usually use cycle treads. I would recommend that you switch to TKC 80 anyway. They'll last longer and will work ok with your karoo front, plus they should be a little cheaper.
in reply to: Oh No – NZ’s top BMW rider got a helicopter ride #11698Good to see you posting again. Must have taken a while to hack this out with one hand. I am sorry to hear you weren't concious for the helicopter rider, that and the drugs are the highlight of any injury. Once they take your drugs, it's just a long hard slog to recovery. Get well soon!Maybe I should ask Henry for your damaged bike parts, before I'll know it I might be able to build myself another bike 👿 😉
in reply to: Lube Oil recommendations #11628I have for the last nearly 20 years used Motul Gearbox in my BMW crash boxes seems to be the best , tired all sorts of things including GL and 10% Wynns
I kept using that black stuff in the gear box of the R80, but the final drive currently just has 90 Gl5 in it. It's all I had at the time.I think the 1150 still had 75w140 in it. Came out looking the same way it went in. I'll see what the the Castrol does in there. If I am not happy I'll change back.
in reply to: Lube Oil recommendations #11626GL4 for the R80 tho.
I think paralever R80GS's also need GL5
in reply to: Lube Oil recommendations #11624BMW bikes have a dry clutch, just like a car. They also have separate oil for the gearbox, just like a car. As long as it's the correct grade poor it in. I guess they can charge more money if there is a picture of a bike on the container. The bikes are not particularly high revving either, so I can't really see a problem. The critical bit is that the final drive and gearbox get GL5 rated oil. Soon I'll be able to get a second opinion on this from a guy who designs oils for gearboxes for a living, I'll post his opinion.
in reply to: Lube Oil recommendations #11621Looks like you are set. I've just bought Castrol GTX 20w50 for $24 and Castrol EPX 80w90 GL5 for $13 from the Warehouse. I am sure the 1150 won't complain.
