Nice counter-steer in the second pic. Good technique.

Yeah, but he's not smiling at the camera  😀

I'd like to increase the intensity (brightness) of the brake light on my 1997 K1100LT.   Can anyone recommend an effective, economical method?   Are LEDs brighter?   Is there a 'standard' brighter bulb that can replace the present stock bulb?

I can't remember the name of the company, but there is a guy in the states who has a kit that adds extra lights. The K tail light has a lot of unused room in it. I had that in my K75s at the time. Maybe I'll remember the name later.

Very impressive, Dave. Those track days seem to make a lot of difference. I must put some supermoto wheels on the R80 :-). Sorry to hear about the bruising, but they say you're not trying hard enough if you don't have the odd biff (track only). Is your bike a bit more black than usual?

could be the recession. they got a gammy gauge or did not hold properly. u now get a $300 bill.  👿

This will cost more than $300. They did say that the test was done twice. We'll see, but I really want my bike to be running 100%. I was amazed at the lack of wear after 100000km.

I was at Experience today while they took the head and barrel off. Apart from quite a bit of carbon build up on the piston, there was nothing to see. Nil wear in the bore, not even a little ledge, honing marks all present. No sign of blow by, piston skirts were immaculate, con-rod bearing showed no sign of wear. So it's a bit of a mystery. Maybe the initial compression test was off. The pinging is probably due to the carbon build up and should be gone after a good clean. The cat has a slight rattle, so I might take the opportunity to ditch it.

The 1150 is at the Experience hospital for a check up. It's a bit wheezy on one of its lungs, compression is down to 8.5 on the left cylinder, compared to 12 on the right. This would explain the pinging and the mediocre performance. It also sounds very expensive, in fact Henry pointed out that the last time this happened I bought a new bike. the vultures are circling :-).In other words, pace will not be an issue.I am very much committed to this bike and intend to keep it, even though I've kept wringing its neck and flogging the rent out of it. One theory is that the cat has died and has affected the left cylinder. Or maybe the pinging has just stuffed the cylinder. Or I was just too dumb to adjust the valves properly. However, if this was the case you'll never hear of it from me :-).If it's not fixed by the 15th I'll let someone else lead the ride.

Alex, those fish n chups are really old by now.....

true, but I've had them a couple of time since and they're still good. Let's call it a photo from our files :-). They do serve other stuff as well. Or you can just pack a lunch and enjoy the ride.

From my time with an F650 (or as our american friends say a "sic-fiddy") The proof in this pudding was owning the bike for near on two years, never replacing an existing chain and only adjusting up slack in it once... just before I sold it 🙂cheersTracy

So how many k's did you do during the two years?

Any thoughts on the best options in modern chain lube?

From what I have learned, near dry is best in dusty off-road situations and chain wax seem to make less of a mess. Spray on and wipe off excess. Don't get fingers stuck in sprockets (has not happened to me yet) don't let them become to loose and don't worry too much about them. I don't like chains all that much, but can live with them if I have to.

Hmm, several of my fingers have become too loose, and dislocate quite willingly now (years of soldiering, farming and heaven only knows what other abuse will sometimes do that.) They hurt when they dislocate, and are bloody agonising when I put them back in................................. I guess it would hurt if you put a loose finger in a sprocket, as well.  😛 😛 😛

😛 I guess I deserved that 😀  I'd made some fancy changes with cut and paste resulting in a more entertaining syntax. Proof reading would have fixed that.

Are you asking if Gerda's bike is a low suspension model?  It has the standard suspension with a low seat. It's quite an improvement over the old F650GS. The engine is very capable and has a nice sound as a bonus.

That looks like a short hose to me. It should be up against those ribs acting as a hose stop. I'm still waiting for mine to be replaced.[/url]

The new longer hose is on, so they must ave them now.

Alex:  I will be up for the CCA if you can stand the company.

Excellent, we'll be able to enter a complete team :-), not that it's a team event, bit sometimes a little help or encouragement does wonders.

Sorry, I was talking about the Capital Coast Adventure ride in Wellington. It happens on April 26. http://ccadv08.blogspot.com/2007/09/home.htmlIt's on every two years and I did the last one on my 1150. This year I will be using the R80GS.

What you meant to say I'm sure is next year you'll be using the R80GS, it'll be 2010 - and planning is underway  😀

In this case it would be "next year I will be using the R80GS again", remember it was written in 2008.
