in reply to: Bronz Riding Course #12001
I've done the course three times. It really is quite good, apart from a couple of things which were a bit stupid. I hope they've changed the exercise where an instructor points left or right at the last moment to direct a rider into one cone alley or the other. When I did it the guy stood in front of the cones, ready to get nailed by the first indecisive participant. I still recommend it to anybody experienced or not. Where else do you get to try out all this stuff in a pretty safe environment.
in reply to: Sidecar "Have A Go Day" – November 1 Taupo #11999I've linked it to the calendar, but won't turn it into a register ride. Not everybody like side cars and Taupo is a bit far for most people. I am sure you can organize a ride with interested people easily enough.

in reply to: Reserve fuel switch on R1100RT #11997There is always a bit of petrol in the tank that the pump can reach. So don't count on every last drop. Sometimes you can lean the bike to get a bit more to the pump side, but with an RT leaning could be tricky, but pushing would be even harder. It is also not a good idea to let the pump squeal, because it is starting to run dry.
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11964The Basic has a clutch issue. The clutch doesn't disengage. I'll have to take it apart and have a look. If it's serious I may have to pull out. The 1150 is still at Experience, hopefully they'll be able to get it running again, soon. Today I'll be riding Gerda's bike to work.
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11962The cabin is booked. All I need now is a bike to do the ride on.
in reply to: Reserve fuel switch on R1100RT #11995I am sure you will get a response from the RT riders soon. I don't know the range of an RT or its tank volume. The light will come on once the last bar has disappeared. I'd say you'll then have another 50+ km to go before you'll have to start pushing. 350km on 14.5 liters is very impressive. You must be a smooth rider.
in reply to: Reserve fuel switch on R1100RT #11993No, your bike does not have a reserve switch. It is fuel injected. You should have a fuel level display and a fuel warning light instead. Setting the trip meter to zero when you fill up should also give you an indication when it's time to refill.
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11961I think we'll have to organize accommodation fairly soon. I anyone else in? It's probably a good idea to add yourself to the list on Kiwibiker.
I've booked a family cabin at Taumarunui Holiday Park for the Saturday night [no standard cabins left] . It has 4 beds so room for 3 others. Works out at $20/head if all 4 beds taken. If anyone wants one, let me know asap.Alex: Have you booked somewhere near Otorohanga?
Have had a reply and will book a cabin double/single bunk $52. Alex
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11958I have sent an email, but have not had a reply. Will give them a ring if I there is no response by Sunday afternoon. I will take one of the beds in your cabin. Peter F800GS may also be interested and possibly Richard K.
in reply to: March 15 AKL Register ride to Whangamata #11933Well, instead of running much better, my bike is now not running at all. This means I will be riding the R80GS on Sunday. Someone else can volunteer to lead the ride. It's a good opportunity to get the last bit of life out of the knobblies, but not much more, so I'll just trundle along. While they were working on the bike I had the cat gutted. Al's mufflers in Target road did a great job. They sure know how to weld. Now all I need is to hear it running again. I sure hope it's only a stupid little mistake that can be easily corrected. But they are already talking about removing the head again. Well, it's Friday the 13th, things can go wrong!
in reply to: 4 days Southtirol, Dolomites, Italy #11984Neat report Rudi, good to hear from you again. I've traveled up the road to Jenesien, but did it in a car. You can't go much steeper than that, especially in the tight turns.
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11955Hi Steven, looks like it's going to be a good ride. I've already put my name down, but have not booked accommodation yet. It will be good to catch up wit your again. There should be a few BMW on the ride. I guess you will be riding your DR instead. The Traverse is a bit much on an 1150. While I am sure it can be coaxed through, I'd say the fun factor would suffer. Last time I had enough trouble to get the jugs of the R80 past the ruts in the muddy section.
in reply to: King Country Adventure ride (Kiwibiker) #11952Alex, please mark me in for this one. Looks too good to miss. I think I'll put off putting back on the windshield until after it though 😀
