Welcome to the forum. The R1200GS is a wonderful bike. I am not surprised that you like it. You might want to fill in your user profile, so that other members can see where you live. It often helps to know a person's location when they need advice or talk about rides. If you're in Auckland, we have a ride to Kawhia this Sunday.

Welcome to the forum. You made an excellent choice with your bike. I still have the grin you are talking about after 6 years of riding my GS. But I've learned to keep my mouth shut while riding.  😀

Well, I could write exactly the same as above. Only this time I have a new old clutch, and new old clutch rod with the old style throughout bearing. I am getting really quick at changing an airhead clutch  :-D. Let's hope this will be the end of this sorry saga.I'll need to change the fork oil and get a new rear tyre, then I am good to go. Are you still in, Haggis?

We'll be riding on sealed roads all the way. People who want to ride gravel can do so on the return trip. Hopefully it will be fine on Sunday.

Only once :-). Enjoyed Pueblo Bonito and the surrounding area in the early 80's and will go back one day.

We've got a register ride to Kawhia coming up, why don't you come along for the ride?

Wow ! heavy stuff !! can't help but feel a little for this kshurley guy (?) some people get a bit irrational when they feel they are being 'ganged up' upon. Having said that it shouldn't have degenerated into personal abuse. At the end of the day we're all about the same thing, Bikes Bikes Bikes !!

Well put. I try very much only to wind up people I know personally :-). That way we can sort out any misunderstandings next time we meet in person.I hope that's not you abusing the rear tyre on what looks like an R1200R with an open face helmet and all? 😀

See here http://forum.bmwor.org.nz/index.php/topic,1592.0.html, it's a good example of how things can go wrong on the interweb. Would have never happened in real life.Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Looks like he's signed off. This forum is obviously an acquired taste 🙂

I thought it had died a natural death.  I would have preferred it ending on a humorous note, but it wasn't to be. This thread is now locked.

I guess so. It really depends on the fit, that would be the only way I could justify it. I liked the System 4. For  a while I thought that I'd never go back to a non-flip-up helmet,  but it hasn't been a hard ship with the Shoei.

That wouldn't bother me at all. The System 4 is not much of an adventure helmet anyway. I'll try one on once they arrive here, if it fits me I'll buy one for the Annual Rally tour. They quote a weight of 1570 grams, that's pretty good. Unless of course they'll ask silly prices for it. Then I'll just take the peak off the Hornet and used that instead.I don't actually need the sun visor, as I always ride with tinted safety glasses. That way I can ride with an open visor at speeds of up to 100km/h.  I found the Shoei Hornet adequate for most riding. It doesn't like buffeting wind, though.

PS Is anyone interested in some biking jandals ?

Yesterday I got passed by a guy on a scooter wearing a black open face helmet and biking jandals. I am glad you've finally managed to sell your stuff. Those scooter riders are obviously a tough breed, as I was still filling the chill with all my gear on.

I've split the topic and moved it to here. In my opinion the whole thing got a little bit out of hand. It's a common forum problem. People start reading too much into each others' replies. There is nothing wrong about trying to sell a helmet. Seeing that it was listed in the for sale section I am sure he wasn't expecting a discussion on the merits of open face helmets. Seeing that we seem to have one now, you might as well carry on here. Perhaps we can have those topic headings changed back as well, thanks.
