in reply to: The Dangers of Motorcycling #12418
You gave plenty of warning, so people can choose not to look at it.
in reply to: RT1100 Service and faults #12411We're all like minded people here, Pete. Some more than others :-). Is it proper backfiring, or more of a popping sound from the exhaust? Since I've had the cat removed, my exhaust pops a bit own deceleration, if I time it well I can make it go 'bang'. This is caused by unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust. You might have a leaky injector, that causes your problem. Is your fuel consumption OK?Cheers,Alex
in reply to: Great Motorcycle Books #8398Funny you should mention that :-). Yesterday I wore my rain-suit over my overall, which has a Goretex liner on my way to work. It was windy and raining hard. I was feeling kind of smug, knowing that I couldn't get wet dressed like this. On top of the harbor bridge I got that damp feeling on my seat. I tried to tell myself that it was just the water feeling cold. Unfortunately, I ended up with wet nappies. Maybe I had been a bit sloppy putting the over-suit on. I sure hope so, because that BMW rain-suit hasn't had all that much use to be leaking already. The Kokopelli dance happens every time I put the suit on or take it off.
in reply to: Virus protection #12356Looks like it's all clear. The offending code has been removed, but we will continue to monitor the solution. Please make sure you have a suitable anti-virus software installed, as you should anyway when surfing the big bad interweb.
in reply to: GS tank repairs #12391I can't believe they've managed to repair that. Must have used all of a bucket of Bondo :-D.I guess those Adventure tanks cost an absolute fortune and make a good repair economical. I hope you don't mind that I've fixed your pictures. All you have to do it do 'highlight' the link and then click on the little picture frame in the text editor menu
in reply to: Virus protection #12355Yep, looks like the problem is still there. I was told it had been fixed. We will have another go tomorrow, if that doesn't fix it we may have to shut down until we can fix it.
in reply to: new member #10726Good to have seen you today, sorry I didn't chance to catch up with you. We had perfect riding weather and very much enjoyed the day.
in reply to: June 7 AKL Lunch Ride to Raglan #12319Sounds good , If I get my bike running I will meet you Les
Hi Les,hope you had a good ride home. I didn't realize it was you who joined us at the table until I got home and saw this post again. Cheers,Alex
in reply to: Local knowledge? Help please. #12381Well, the road from the Bridal Veil falls onwards is blocked by a slip and requires a detour through a creek. However, the alternative, where you don't turn off left towards the Bridal Veil falls, but carry on towards Kawhia, has lots of gravel and a few loose sections at the moment. I would not take gravel newbies on road bikes through there, unless I wanted some entertainment and perhaps have them stop talking to me. Other than that, the road is a hoot and highly recommended.
in reply to: Top box for GS #12370Well, not sure if there is an alternative to a Givi box. They seem to be the most reasonably priced option. With the right adapter plate you can fit almost anything. The factory topboxes had a tendency to fall off. I guess you wouldn't want that to happen with your camera gear in it, but I guess they would have solved that problem by now.
in reply to: Top box for GS #12368I don't like top boxes. I don't like the look of them, and I think they are useless for riding on difficult terrain. For this reason I prefer soft luggage as an alternative. Currently I have a tank bag strapped to my rear seat. Touratech has some great bags. They are bloody expensive, but the small one I have has lived on the back of my GS for over 6 years and almost 110000km. It is faded, but still works as well as the day I bought it. Recently Gerda has a bought a large one for her F650GS/2. These bags are very well-made.
in reply to: Red Bull City Scramble #12363I only found out about it thanks to Peter's post. Later on it was in the news. BMW seems to be pretty media shy in NZ, you'd think they'd go around telling people. I guess the difficulty in this event wasn't so much the size of the obstacles, but the fact that they came so quickly one after another. The top guys made it look easy, most of the time. Have a look at the event they run at the Erzberg, I hadn't realized that they also have an obstacle course. Initially I thought it was a flat out race up the mountain, but it seems they run several different event. I bet there will be a few guys going out to buy dirt bikes after this event.Link to Erzberg http://www.erzbergrodeo.at/jart/prj3/mmagazin/main.jart?rel=de&content-id=1162818505415&reserve-mode=active
in reply to: Virus protection #12353Well that's comforting to know Alex 😐 like saying you've got swine flu but only the guinea pig version...Malcolm
Would yo have preferred if I'd said that your computer will now self destruct, but not before the hacker has run off with all your money? :-D. Let's hope we can keep our noses clean for a while. These hackers need to get a life.
in reply to: Virus protection #12351The problem should be fixed now. It was a virus, but not a destructive one.
in reply to: Revs/speed #12338Malcolm, Paul Edlington has a Sherpa in his garage. It belongs to a friend who uses it for long tours when in new Zealand. The guy is pretty big according to Paul and has full luggage with him. He said that Sherpa has had no problems with the weight and still manages a respectable cruising speed and goes up hill easily.I wouldn't worry about it, these things are tough as nails. I doubt you'll harm it.
