in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12548
Thanks Tony, but I think we've already got a delivery solution.
in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12544SOLD, thanks artig. How can it be shipped, and where can I get the acid from?
in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12542That hasn't been an issue, the battery is still working after 6.5 years. I don't mind topping up the battery every now and then. The 1150 has been retired from off-road riding, so it's likely to stay a lot more vertical.
Turned out to be a good ride, with only a few showers. I really liked the food. Turns out they're into organic stuff. That bacon clearly came from a happy pig. Got quite a bit of gravel in on the return trio. Kaipara Hills, Old Kaipara Rd, Welch Access, Burnside, Makarau and one I forgot. The Shinko is hooking up nicely.Came across and accident on Old North road. A cruiser rider didn't make a corner by the looks of it. Looked a bit pale around the gills. I hope he was alright, there were plenty people there already. The bikes are filthy, again! The last wash was a waste of time. Next ride to Puhoi will see them get dirty again.
in reply to: US purchases #12523And if I can help let me know Alex
We'll go shopping in 2011 :-).
in reply to: $$$$$ Airheads $$$$$$$ #12446I'll probably take the black bike, otherwise I won't be able to keep up with Gerda :-). People are just starting to realize that they aren't making anymore airheads. The good ones will be snapped up. It is still hard to beat an airhead GS for adventure riding purposes. I love riding mine, especially off the beaten track.
in reply to: $$$$$ Airheads $$$$$$$ #12443Where can I buy a new Oilhead for $7800?
in reply to: System 6 Helmet #12147They probably buy them 4 at a time, so the profit has to cover the airfare for the guy who brings them in :-D.
A top-box can be locked, a large bag usually not. A large bag has the advantage that it's large 🙂 and soft luggage will bulge where it needs to, while a hard box will have to be filled with care. If you already have a top-box and it gives you enough storage, why not use it?
in reply to: Shinko 705 #12430Any comments on the tyre yet? or is it still too early regards Les
I just got back from a ride up north via Opononi and Russel. It rained from Russel until Auckland. I still have the radial front crossply rear combination and I've got to say that while it's doable I wouldn't recommend it. The feeling while cornering is just too vague. I am happy with the Shinko otherwise, it seems to have plenty of grip and has performed well enough in the wet. I will probably get a matching front soon, just for peace of mind.
in reply to: Shinko 705 #12427The 705 is a brand new tyre design from them, new for '09. I bought it at Cycletreads, they had to order it in for me. I bought it to tie me over until the SI ride, then I'll fit a new set. Maybe even Shinko again, if they perform as well as they look.
in reply to: Shinko 705 #12424Just had the tyre fitted. Paid $145 +$3 disposal charge. The 705 looks good on the bike and the I like how the groves are angled for better self cleaning. They seem to stick nicely, but the roads are wet at the moment, so I haven't been leaning all that much.
in reply to: RIP Michael #12441in reply to: RT1100 Service and faults #12415There is some info out on youtube, you can do a search. It will show you how to adjust the valves and synchronize the throttle bodies.
in reply to: The Dangers of Motorcycling #12419I had a look just now. The bikes reached speeds of up to a 160mph. It all looks pretty harmless, until you notice that the dashed center lines have almost become continuous. In the end it wasn't the outright speed that killed him, but stupid passing behaviour on what looked like a motorway on-ramp. This high speed riding has never appealed to me, things just happen too fast for me to keep up.
