in reply to: Adventure Ride to 42nd Traverse and Fishers track #12662
I've stayed there before, and managed to sleep through most of them. The worst place I stayed at was a Motel in Plimmerton right next to the train tracks, we should asked for our money back.I've booked a standard cabin at the Holiday Park, it sleeps two as far as I know. I am happy to share. If Haggis is keen to join we could take a larger one.I've also booked a two bunk room at the Owhango Hotel. Bookings are for the 25th at Owhango and the 26th at Taumarunui. Some people will stay for both nights at Taumarunui, but Owhango is closer to the action and the Pub does good meals.
in reply to: Adventure Ride to 42nd Traverse and Fishers track #12660Alex, I note [and understand - I think] your comment about avoiding bigger bikes but I've written a note on the Advrider thread to check the general feeling. I am sure I can't be the only one who has only one bike - and bought it as the best all rounder. I agree it's not ideal for tracks like the 42nd but for me that's all part of the challenge 👿
You've been through there before, so you know what's coming. I hope you can come along.
in reply to: Adventure Ride to 42nd Traverse and Fishers track #12659I am usually with Steve on the trailer thing, because adventure riding includes getting there on your own bike. However, I am very busy at work and have had a nasty cold for the last three weeks, so I may take your up on that offer. It's still three weeks to go, so things may improve. Steve doesn't need to trailer his bike, it's got nowhere to go.
in reply to: Adventure Ride to 42nd Traverse and Fishers track #12654I take it that you won't be coming then? Still resting on old laurels?
in reply to: $$$$$ Airheads $$$$$$$ #12450Yep, I saw the last bidder, clearly an addict, considering he already has one similar to the one he bid on. For some reason I decided to check on the bike and it turned out to be 6 min. before the end of bidding. It got auto-extended several times.

in reply to: AKL Sept.6 Lunch ride to Karioitahi Beach #12624Probably a good idea 🙂
in reply to: AKL Sept.6 Lunch ride to Karioitahi Beach #12622I would use you for that, but I know you have your own spelling demons haunting you:-).
in reply to: AKL Sept.20 Register ride to Whangarei #12635What's an A amongst friends? Most people got it, but one of us is special needs :-).
in reply to: Wellington City Bike Parking….here we go again….. #12644Yep, a bit of consultation goes a long way. Sometime I get the feeling though, that it is just a process that they go through before they do what they want anyway.Btw, I only just now understood your username :-), it's quite clever.
in reply to: Wellington City Bike Parking….here we go again….. #12641Interesting. Auckland has become tougher on bikes as well. I am lucky enough to be able to park less than 5m meters away from the entrance to my building, so I am not really affected by this, but I do take my chances elsewhere. It looks like bikes and scooters will continue to become more popular for commuting. It makes sense to me that they want to establish some sort of order before things get out of hand, which has been the usual approach (letting things get out of hand). Look what happened to cell phones and loud exhausts. It's much easier to control before it gets out of hand. On the other hand, they have an obligation to provide sufficient parking spaces for people who are already going out of their way to reduce the congestion on our roads. It's a little ironic that the Chinese have been abandoning their bicycles and scooter for cars, while we are going into the opposite direction (well, just a little :-).
in reply to: Interislander Bookings #12639You need the booking code, which we supply on request. It's one of the perks of membership, so we don't like to post it on the interweb. I still need to make my own booking.
in reply to: AKL Sept.20 Register ride to Whangarei #12629That's the last straw… I quit!
in reply to: R1150GS Battery #12551Battery didn't fit, so promised to Richard K. for the same amount. If he picks it up one of these days. The new Yuasa I ended up installing made a huge difference. The old one was on its last leg. On starting it kept resetting the clock and barely had enough grunt to start the bike.
would that make you a count-a-stirrer?
