Looks like the only hard man is Haggis. Both Dave and I whimped out due to the weather, but Haggis is giving it a go with his Adventure. Hopefully he won't get it stuck between two tree :-).

Those were great!  Looks like you were all getting pretty tired toward the end.  The guy on the 650 looked like he was over it!

nah he was there to make Alex look good.

Hehe, yep, he was my decoy, but you guys saw right through him :-).  The problem we all had was that the sun came out. We were all dressed for much colder weather. I was wearing 4 layers and thermal long-johns. By the time I got half way through I was soaked. You can hear Eddie breathing in one of the vids.  Next time I'll dress lighter, but carry the extra layers with me. It's really hard to concentrate when you are over-heating.Maybe I'll just have to buy a DRZ-400, if you guys keep making fun of me. The Suzuki will make me look like an adventure riding God. To be fair, Eddie was also riding an R80 and I don't think he dropped his bike.

He was stuffed and that was the end of his adventure ride. He went sightseeing afterwards. With the tyres he had I would not have even attempted this ride. He later thanked me for telling him to leave his panniers at the National Park petrol station.

for those the funniset parts are Part 1,     4.44 s to 5.50 s  and Part 2,      6.13 s to 7.25s   but all credit you can see the difference between a 800cc twin and a 450cc single and how hard they are to ride compared to the lighter bike

6.13 wasn't a drop. There is a bog there and a branch went trough the spokes. We had to lean the bike way over to get it out.

It's looking very good, but damn, I thought I might get a mention as having the newest airhead  😀

Will 1600cc be enough? Honda already makes an 1800 and Triumph a 2300cc bike. So, will a 1600cc be manly enough, or will people still kick sand your way?

Sorry if I am boring you with this stuff, but here is some video footage filmed by EddieB. I fell over once, got snagged by a branch in a bog and we had to drag the bike out and then I managed to tip over the bike. It was relatively hard going.  The guy on the F650GS Dakar had road tyres on his bike, so he had a lot of opportunities to pick it up.Part 1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjSnv4JrouYPart 2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIwWYiwHyR4This sort of riding is a load of fun. Most of it is low speed stuff, falling over is part of the fun. However, it's the part that you are trying to keep to a minimum. A lighter bike is a bit easier to ride, but adventure riding usually doesn't include trailes and utes. Three of the bikes you see arrived on trailers. I remember a lot of complaining about seats on the return trip, mine was brilliant and still good to go after the 402km return trip and that included almost half on gravel.I can't wait for the next trip.

Yep, not looking so good at the moment. The track is not affected by rain, it drains extremely well. However, it's meant to be fun and I am not desperate to get rained on.

That's not a problem at all. As a matter of fact that's what the training is all about. It's Sunday the 1st of November meeting at 10am at the Kumeu Bakehouse Cafe.

    in reply to: Insurance #12810

I am just about to pay for our insurance. I am still with JB and have three bikes insured with them. I found them to be a little more expensive than others, but I know that they pay up without hassle and that's worth more than a slightly lower premium. Thankfully I've never needed to claim for bike insurance in the past.

Thanks, that's very helpful. We'll go and talk to them.

By the way, we are seven now, so the cost will be $130pp. I reckon that's the best money you can spend on bike related stuff, right up there with tyres and suspension.

That's the slippery slope :-).  You could take some of my gear, but I'll be happy to ride the bike out there. I keep losing stuff off the bike of my bike.

This shot gives a better idea of how deep it was. I could feel the bike shifting sideways.p9260044.jpg
