I was thinking that, but didn't want to offend you  😀

Yep. that's what the ride report section is for. Not enough people make use of it. Plenty of pictures would be good, too.

Who else would have put up with the hooting from the railway crossing? Other than that is it was a good place to go to, just not very far from home :-).

My mother has just called and told me that Bernd has died in Africa . Bernd went there to work in an orphanage in Kenya. According to a now confirmed report, he got killed by an Elephant the day before he was due to fly back home to Germany. At the time he was employed at a lodge in Kenya. We are quite shocked, as we had been in contact with him and he was a regular at my parent’s house. Bernd was a really nice guy, an adventurer at heart, always on the look out for the perfect woman. We will miss him.

It's the “other” ferry :-). Never tried them, but it seems their ships are a bit smaller, so the crossings could be rougher. Haven't heard any complaints, though. I they are also cheaper, but discount we get still undercuts that a little, I think.

The R1150R is an excellent bike. You can hardly go wrong. Don't worry too much about mileage, if it has had regular services.

Take it to Haldanes, they have Ian, BMW trained with an affinity for airheads. He used to work for Experience. Other than that, it's not all that hard to do yourself. Balancing the carbs can be done near enough by sound. I use a twin max. Fluid changes and valves are easy as well.

Get some cheap ratchet tie downs.  Three should probably do it.  Make sure the hooks have some sort of protection on them, maybe you can slide a bit of tube over them.

True, but it's nice to a have a couple of mates who can go and get help. It must have been just outside of Telecom's 97% coverage of where New Zealanders work live and play, so no opportunity for an ad then.I hope there are no complications and that he will heal well.

Yes, it did look great. Woodcocks road is a good run, especially up and down that hill.

Looks like you were lucky with the weather. Doesn't look like there were many BMW on the ride.

I think it says Tuareg on it, they are pretty useful. You should get one, too
