in reply to: Maramarua Forest Trail Ride 3rd Jan 2010 #13394
I'd be up for that, but it depends on the the date. I am already committed to doing the Capital Coast, it's not easy for me to get time off work outside the scheduled breaks. I'll see what he has in mind.
in reply to: BMWOR Annual Rally 2010 #13419We just got home a couple of hours ago. The rally was extremely well organized, thanks to Warren and Lex and helpers of course. I've got a truck load of photos from the trip, but will have to load them onto Photobucket first.
in reply to: Maramarua Forest Trail Ride 3rd Jan 2010 #13392Just got home an hour ago. Apparently I am not going on the 17th. Will do the next opportunity.
in reply to: Maramarua Forest Trail Ride 3rd Jan 2010 #13390Went for my first Maramarua Forest trail ride today. What FUN!I got chucked off THREE TIMES. Twice on the last run of the day. I was obviously getting tired so I packed it up and went home. If you haven't been there, it's much better than Woodhill, and it's only an hour from Auckland. I'm going to try it again on 17th Jan.Of course, there's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xrCjO9ogc4 and as always, remember to click "HD"DTY
Looking good :-)...Did you focus on the ruts? I am keen to do a couple of trail rides this summer, as well as some adventure rides. I still need to go through Aotuhia.
in reply to: S1000RR at Experience #13321The BMW screws do rust. However, my understanding is that they use the most environment friendly methods to produce their stuff in Germany. This means that on occasion you do not get the best method, but the one with the least environmental impact. One of the reasons that production is China is somewhat cheaper is the short length of their waste disposal pipes, with fewer baffles :-). Germans love to be environmentally friendly in Germany, but industry is quite happy to make a buck by charging German Made prices for a third world product. The quality of the product may still be there, but don't look too closely at what happens out the back.
in reply to: S1000RR at Experience #13318True, why spoil the fun for others. Honda has a interesting line-up of bikes coming out. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/09/20/honda-evo6-cb1100r-and-cb1100f-concepts/I like this oneand this oneBoth are oil cooled, I like that. The ride to Piha was a hoot. I enjoyed riding Lone Kauri Road. The R80GS is going rather well at the moment.
in reply to: S1000RR at Experience #13316Depends what surface I am riding on 😀BMW has struggled in the past to get its electronics sorted. I am sure its brilliant while it works and will allow a whole new generation of senior squids to pretend they are Rossi, sorry Ruben.I guess technology moves along, but unless you are actually racing, what's the point? If you need all those electronic aids to keep the bike on the road, perhaps it's got too much power. Maybe I am just getting too old to appreciate stuff like that.
in reply to: R1100RS Fuel Range #13359Yeah Dean, you have missed the point! This is to avoid running out of gas, which can be inconvenient.
Yesterday I had to push my R80 for the last 3m to the pump. I was on reserve, but had only turned the tap about 4km ago. It just started to splutter near where I was going to fill up. Looks like I'll have to pull the taps to check on the reserve straw, they may have come off.I know that I can get 400km from a full tank, but I don't aways fill it to the top during adventure riding, so I really need to fix my reserve. :-). They aren't easy to push.

in reply to: AKL Dec.20 Register ride to the Nikau Cafe #13047Yes, the poor man got a bit of a hammering. He has a heart of gold and I am sure there wasn't the slightest bit of malice behind it. Unfortunately he doesn't get to ride to the SI this year, so he must have been dreaming about that.
in reply to: AKL Dec.20 Register ride to the Nikau Cafe #13045Glad you enjoyed the ride, pity I had to miss it
Yes, there were some raised eyebrows :-). On the other hand not many people notice my slight detour.
in reply to: AKL Dec.20 Register ride to the Nikau Cafe #13041Well that was it, my last ride as Area Rep. Thanks to all who turned up and to Bwucie for taking over from now on. Special thanks to Jimmy for shouting us lunch, he is a gentleman. Turns out he is also a demon on the gravel with his DR125, a lot faster than on the K1200S. Richard K. managed to change the route slightly, taking the tail-end Bwucie with him, but still managed to arrive at the destination ahead of everybody else. In fine form he also managed to eat 80% of a Salami Pizza before realizing that it was not the Hawaiian Pizza he had ordered. I think we have a trophy for that somewhere :-).All in all an eventful afternoon. Those who chickened out because it rained in the morning missed out on a good ride.signing off, Ex-Area Rep.
in reply to: AKL Dec.20 Register ride to the Nikau Cafe #13040Yep, everybody rides their own ride, with the system we run nobody gets left behind, while people can still have fun. It will be a relatively short ride, as most people are pretty busy this time of the year. See you tomorrow.
