in reply to: Capital Coast Adventure 2010 #13677
I am slightly less sore today. Haggis got his giant bike through all the challenge sections. Peter Z. didn't drop his bike once. Richard is a little more sore than I am. It's fair to say that we had a great time last weekend. The CCA is an excellent adventure. Here are some of my pictures.
in reply to: Riding Boots #13547I have Sidi Discovery Adventure boots. They are pretty good and waterproof, to a point, well to the top of the boot. Recently I've bought a pair of older style Sidi MX boots of Richard. I'll be wearing those on the CCA. They offer more protection than the Discos, but I can still walk in them. Just the sort of compromise I was looking for.It really depends what you want from the boot. There are lots of boots out there as you well know, and it's pretty much a sliding scale from slippers to a cast like contraption. You'll have to pick your own sweet spot. Just keep in mind that leg injuries are the most common type of injury in motorcycling. While a good boot will not prevent a broken leg, it will certainly reduce the extent of an injury.

in reply to: Clear the table? #13622I'd prefer if it could do the dishes. 😀
in reply to: R1100RS Oil Sight Glass #13554It should be after a decent run, the oil has to be properly hot. I usually check it after getting home from a long ride.
in reply to: R80GS Basic- Oil Filter #13566I've used both. They are the same length. Make sure that your white O-ring does its job properly.
in reply to: tire reccomendations #12176$170 a side vs. $55. I am happy with the set I got from Cycletreads I think they were EBC. I am @ 126000km and I've installed one set of BMW front pads and just recently a set of EBC pads. Also replaced the rear pads for the first time. They still had a bit of life in them, but after 120000km they were looking forward to their retirement.Once I hit 200000km I'll have to spring for new front discs, but that's still 3 years away.
in reply to: R1100RS Oil Sight Glass #13552Hot, 5 min. on the side stand and then up onto the main stand. The cold reading is inconsistent.Â
in reply to: Removing a rear shock #13480Well, most people keep their old shocks for that reason. You could probably just stick a piece of wood in there. More secure would be a flat bar with holes at either end to it the shock mount. You might even be able to do this with a piece of plywood that's the thickness of the of the shock ends. I am not familiar with how the shocks are attached on your bike. If you could measure the distance between the mounting holes I could probably make something for you.
in reply to: R1150GS riders, check your clutch hose #13478It's a smaller size than the brake line, would they have that? I'll have to see if I can fiddle a new one in without taking half the bike apart. I think if you have ABS you're pretty much out of luck and you'll have to lift the air-box. There is little room to maneuver.
Good to meet all of you on Sunday. Thankfully the roads were dry on the return trip, so I could really enjoy riding without the extra luggage attached to the bike.
in reply to: Thias That Bind, hopefully with Pix! #13447Excellent report. I only just got around to reading it. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5305Cool. I can't go past these places without wondering who lived there, and why they were abandoned. Sometimes its just that a new place had been built, but often it looks like people just packed up and left.
in reply to: Letterboxes, post them here #6883Found one more for this thread. On the way to Collingwood
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5302Here is a bunch I found on our recent ride to the SI. I've forgotten where the first one came from. The rest were from Akaroa, the stone one from near Oamaru and the last one from near Takaka. There were lots more I didn't photograph and lots more I didn't even see :-).
