in reply to: April weather #5480
Yes a good rainsuit is a must. We have April weather all year around. If you don’t like the weather, wait for five minutes. The weater tends to be most settled from late January to early April.
Yes, there are plenty of register members on the South Island. Don't know how many read this forum though. Club members enjoy the use of our tour guide booklet. I think MOA has something similar.in reply to: 1200GS Adventure #5464The weight quoted in this article refers to the old Adventure. There is no indication of how much the new bike might weigh.

Make sure and get the Legacy checked out as they can be trouble.
Go and see Telecom Mobile phone shop they sell Navman which have the maps, but GPS in NZ is very Basic at this Stage. The AA NZ Maps are better.
Man, I must start to read my posts before sending. I am starting write like Steve B.
The Legacy should be fine, I had one for four years without a problem, and this one drives and shifts even better.
Thanks for the advice about Telecom. I must check these maps out.in reply to: Slightly off the beaten track… #5437Malcolm_G wrote:We took the boats up to Whakapirau at the weekend for a paddle. Tried my new TUMONZ mapping software out (you were right – NOT ACCURATE ENOUGH TO TRUST OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE) but it did take us over a lovely little scenic strip of dirt road called Mountain Road which chops about 7ks off the trip to Maungaturoto from Wellsford. 😀 It can be found about two kilometres north of Kaiwaka on the left and returns to the main road SH 12 just before Maungaturoto. It would be useful if you were heading out west or further up country via Paparoa and on to the Twin Bridges.

Pictures? I am still jonesing after a GPS. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who's got the NZ maps. I'd love to know if they'll have all country roads on that as well.
Seeing that I've managed to talk my daughter into a Subaru Legacy, our canoe might get some water time again. Not nealry as sleek as a cyak, though.

in reply to: 2006 Honda Gold Wing Gets Industry-First Airbag #5431I suppose it won’t do much good in a high side or low side. But If you T-bone a car, because the residual braking didn’t slow you down enough it could come in handy.
in reply to: BMW System 5 Helmet #5428I bet it would fit into the panniers of the R1200RT. This is how one thing leads to another. I found that even the system IV is a a tight fit. I must admit that this has not been a problem for me, as I only have panniers on when they are packed to the limit.
in reply to: Gear Change / Twisted burning wreckage problem #5380I’ll be going for a little ride this afternoon maybe from 1-3pm, let me know if you want to come.
in reply to: Gear Change / Twisted burning wreckage problem #5378Hi Alex,
sounds to me like you've been shifting down with the rev's to high and then letting the clutch out too fast. A locking rear wheel at the wrong moment can get you into trouble.
The best way to shift smoothly is to slightly preload the shifter and then pull in the clutch. You'll find that the clutch doesn't have to be pulled in all the way for the gear to engage.
You should come to the next club ride, it's fun and you can compare notes with the other guys.in reply to: Westgate – Paparoa – Managawhai Heads – Home #49921981 I spent some time at the Pueblo Bonito ruins in New Mexico. I did find a couple of Anasazi artefacts, well pottery shards :-). I loved the area and have been intrigued by the Kokopelli figure ever since. That was the reason for choosing it as an avatar, and of course the stud thing :-). But don’t tell anyone.

in reply to: How is this for a BMWral #4982There is an importer in Katikati, must have a look next time I am in the area.
in reply to: Westgate – Paparoa – Managawhai Heads – Home #4986Thanks for the report, Dick. The camerman seems a bit slow. Gerda and I had one of those off days where you can’t really be bothered to ride. We did have a nice lunch at the Log Cabin with Dave and Judith.
